The babysitter accused of murdering little Ronan Davies, who was left in his care, has been ordered to stand trial over the boy’s death.
In the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Tuesday, Quentin Corrigan pleaded not guilty to one count of murder.
Mr Corrigan, 30, of Glenelg North, was arrested in July 2023 and charged with having murdered Ronan, who was 17 months old, a month earlier.
Police alleged the boy, also known as “Ro”, was assaulted as the family friends cared for him over two days at their Glenelg North flat.
His father subsequently discovered him unconscious and he was rushed to hospital, but died two days later due to critical injuries.
Prior to his arrest, Mr Corrigan – who police had dubbed a person of interest – publicly denied any wrongdoing, insisting he “idolised” the boy.
He claimed that, while babysitting Ronan, the child slipped from the pram after he turned away for a split second but was “fine after that”.
On Tuesday, Mr Corrigan appeared by video link and replied “not guilty, Your Honour” when read the charge.Magistrate Simon Smart remanded him in custody to face the Supreme Court in November, when a date for trial will be set.
