The suspect at the centre of a statewide manhunt is a convicted child sex offender who previously kidnapped and raped a girl in 2007.
Allan John Hopkins is tonight still on the run, wanted by police for alleged serious sexual offending involving a child under the age of 18 years.
The 44-year-old was believed to have possibly crossed the border into Victoria, however authorities there say they do not believe he is in the eastern state.
Police have not revealed any further details about his alleged offence, but are calling on the public to report any information about his whereabouts.
Hopkins was already known to police, having been convicted over the 2007 abduction of a 10-year-old girl from her Paralowie home.
The sex predator kidnapped the child while she was sleeping next to a friend and raped her at a nearby school.
He pleaded guilty to the attack and was sentenced in 2010 to 10.5 years in jail, with a non-parole period of seven years.
Mr Hopkins was last year declared a high risk offender and was under a supervision order from the Department of Corrections, 7NEWS revealed.
But that order expired about four weeks ago and brought an end to monitoring.
The latest alleged offending is believed to have occurred in South Australia within the past few weeks, with Mr Hopkins seen driving through an Adelaide bottle shop last week.
The older brother of Hopkins’ first victim – back in 2007 – said he was “distraught” to think Hopkins’ could have harmed another child, he told 9NEWS.
“It’s really heartbreaking to see something like that to happen again,” the brother said.
“(There’s) a lot of anger, a lot of pain and it’s bringing back a lot of different memories.
“It’s like reliving that moment all over again.”
CCTV footage shows a girl or woman in the vehicle as he bought several cans of alcohol.
He is caucasian, 185cm tall, solid build, with short brown hair, brown eyes and a skull tattoo on his right upper arm.
He is believed to be driving a grey 2022 Mazda BT50 ute, SA registration XC101T, and may have travelled to Victoria.
If you see him, his vehicle or know of his whereabouts, please call the Police Assistance line on 131 444 immediately or triple-0 in an emergency.
