A man has been charged after an arrow fired from a high-powered crossbow struck and penetrated the door of a nearby home.

Police said the incident happened during an altercation at Aldinga Beach on Thursday.

They allege the suspect, a 40-year-old man, and the occupants of a Mazda-3 hatchback got into a dispute between 2.45pm and 3pm.

This, they said, culminated with the 40-year-old firing an arrow from a high-powered crossbow, which hit a nearby home.

Fortunately the home’s occupants were not injured and there was no visible damage to the door on the street on Saturday.

Residents of the street told The Advertiser they were unaware of the incident until police contacted in the days following the attack.

The man was arrested and charged on Friday with acts likely to cause harm and being in possession of a crossbow and machete, which are prohibited weapons.

He was granted bail and will appear in court at a later date.

Police do not believe the incident was random and are trying to speak to the occupants of the Mazda 3.

Anyone with information relating to the incident, including the vehicle and people involved, is asked to contact Crime Stoppers.

Crossbows are a prohibited weapon in South Australia, unless the owner has an exemption which are issued for specific purposes only.

Other prohibited weapons include slingshots, pistol crossbows and extendible batons.

The use of crossbows to hunt and kill animals, including on private land, were outlawed this year by the state government.
