Adelaide man to face court after US tip-off charged with child abuse material offences

An Adelaide man charged with child abuse material offences will face court after another tip-off from US authorities.

An Adelaide man will face court on Wednesday after police raided his home and allegedly found child abuse material, in another tip-off from United States authorities.

The man from suburban Adelaide, 61, was charged on March 17 after officers from South Australia’s Joint Anti Child Exploitation Team raided his home and allegedly found child abuse material on a mobile phone.

A number of electronic devices were seized during the search, which will be subject to further forensic examination.

The arrest was a result of an investigation launched after Australian Federal Police officers received a tip-off from the US National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children team.

The man was charged with possessing or controlling child abuse material, obtained or accessed using a carriage service, and using a carriage service to access child abuse material.

US authorities also referred AFP officers to a teenager in the Fleurieu Peninsula in March, which resulted in a property raid.

Benjamin Cross, 19, was charged on March 1 after officers allegedly found child abuse material on multiple electronic devices owned by him.

He faced court last week, and was remanded on bail until July.

AFP Detective acting Superintendent Ben Moses said: “This work is gut-wrenching, but our investigators are relentless in their pursuit of anyone accessing child abuse material, and they will follow up any information to bring these people to justice.”

The recently arrested man will face the Adelaide Magistrates Court on Wednesday, with the maximum penalty for possessing child abuse material of 15 years’ imprisonment.
