Two men accused of shooting dead an Edwardstown father over an alleged love triangle and leaving him to die on a suburban street have been ordered to stand trial.

Michael Craig Stanley, 45, and Jamie Mark Carter, 44, each appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link from prison on Wednesday morning.

They each only spoke once to tell the court they were pleading “not guilty” to the murder of Glenn Michael Holton.

As the pleas were announced, family members and supporters of Mr Holton became visibly upset.

The court has previously heard Mr Holton and Mr Stanley were romantically linked to the same woman.

Mr Holton 41, was found laying in the street on Dunorlan Rd at Edwardstown on December 11, 2022, with a single gunshot wound to the chest.

He was taken to Flinders Medical Centre where a .22 calibre bullet was removed from his chest and he later died.

Mr Stanley was arrested and charged with murder the next day, while Mr Carter was arrested and charged with murder in March 2023.

The court has previously heard Mr Stanley was in an “on-off relationship” with a woman with whom Mr Holton had also been involved with romantically.

THat woman has not been charged with any offence.

“With respect to the relationship between the victim, (the woman) and the accused, (she) had been continuing to see the victim leading up to this incident and was actually with him on the 11th of December,” a prosecutor told the court at a previous hearing.

“There’s evidence which establishes the accused did not like the victim hanging around.”

In that earlier hearing, it had also heard Mr Stanley and the woman had lodged reports with police, and that body worn video had captured Mr Stanley saying “that the victim had been given his final warning”.

The court had also heard the woman had been living with Mr Stanley and Mr Carter at a home in Morphett Vale.

Mr Holton’s family had publicly mourned the loss of their loved one, who they had described as “very sensitive” with a “caring heart”.

Mr Stanley and Mr Carter will next appear in court in April for an arraignment hearing, ahead of a trial date being set.
