Neighbour Malcolm Dawe said he saw the terrifying blaze first-hand.

“When I first seen it, it was just like flames shooting out the front,” he told 7NEWS.

“And then while we were ringing the fire brigade you could hear the glass popping and crackling.”

Firefighters were able to quickly get the fire under control but the house was already gutted.

Investigators believe the fire was caused by a faulty phone charger and urged South Australians to use certified electronic devices.

MFS firefighter Yves Sivenaler said “charging devices deliver different current which may cause overheating or breakdown – leading to fire.

The family is staying with relatives while the housing trust looks for another property.

Damage to the property has been estimated to be about $50,000.
