A man in his late 40s has been found dead in the Adelaide Remand Centre showers

Staff and prisoners at the Adelaide Remand Centre have been offered counselling after a grim find at the Currie Street facility The Advertiser has learned.

Staff members found an unresponsive man in the centre’s showers on Wednesday morning.

The Advertiser understands the man was in his late 40s and had been showing poor health in the lead up to the find.

A spokeswoman from the Department for Correctional Services said “CPR commenced immediately and SA Ambulance Service arrived at 11.30am.”

“The man was pronounced deceased at 12.30pm,” the spokeswoman said.

“Counselling and other support has been made available to both prisoners and staff.”

SAPOL will prepare a report for the Coroner and said the death was “non-suspicious.”
