Australian Nicholas Carr sent to Kerobokan prison after drunken Bali rampage

An Adelaide tradie who claims to have no memory of a drunken Bali rampage where he fly-kicked a man from his motorbike now faces more than two years in the notorious Kerobokan prison. But he hopes a ‘peace agreement’ could outplay charges against him.

The fly kicking Australian tradie who smashed a man from his motorcycle in Bali and drunkenly rampaged around Seminyak terrorising locals has been checked in to the island’s notorious Kerobokan prison.

Nicholas Carr, 26 from Adelaide, was refused home detention even with a personal guarantee from his lawyer Mr Ali Sadikin.

A hand cuffed and newly bearded Carr was transferred from Kuta police station to the infamous jail known as Hotel K, wearing shorts, T-shirt and rubber thongs.

He faces a maximum sentence of two years and eight months jail for assault and damage to property under Article 351 of Indonesian law.

“Today the suspect was handed over the prosecutors and we put him in Kerobokan jail,” said Mr Waher Tailhoran of the Badung prosecutor’s office.

In early August at 5.30am the builder’s apprentice was videoed violently fly kicking Wayan Wirawan from his bike on Sunset Road, a major highway in Bali, during a booze induced frenzy. He then jumped onto the bonnet of a moving car and rolled over it then continued running down the street. He was then hog tied by locals with garden hosepipe and taken to Kuta police station.

Earlier in the morning, Carr also raided a home in Seminyak and assaulted the owner who he pushed from a veranda. He locked himself into a room while terrified locals fled the scene, which was all caught on CCTV. Within hours of the attack, the shocking video went viral. Carr has taken full responsibility for his actions and apologised publicly and entered into compensation and ‘peace agreements’ with his victims, none of whom were seriously injured. “My memories on the day and night of the 9th of August was drinking at a bar with mates. A couple of bars. Just drinking and then it got real blurry. Fuzzy. I lost memory. I was disorientated and I don’t have much memory of the actual events. I’m sorry for the damage and sincerely sorry to the victims involved,” Carr said yesterday from Kuta’s police lock up while dressed orange prison overalls.

Carr was visiting Bali on a ten-day holiday and after the incident he admitted to drinking ‘a lot’ of vodka and cocktails. He also said that he has never taken drugs.

Mr Wirawan, the fly kicking victim, has accepted the ‘peace agreement’ and unspecified compensation from Carr.

While the court will consider the ‘peace agreements’, possibly in Carr’s favour, they are no guarantee that he will outplay the charges against him.

Carr is expected to appear in Denpasar Court before October 29.
