COCO Chen, the woman behind new 40-seat vegan diner and bar V-Vego Vegan Bistro in Gawler Place, has a simple take on veganism.
“Vegans are healthy and they love life,” Coco says.
“Vegans love animals – cows and pigs and other kinds of animals. So I think it’s a good thing to be vegan. My business partner Josh Gu and I love animals for sure.”
V-Vego’s Asian-influenced vegan menu includes dishes such as grilled zucchini (pictured, right), banana blossom salad and Deng Aku Nasu (miso grilled eggplant).
Everything stocked in the bar is vegan, too, including vegan wine and beer (free of fish finings and milk products) and vegan spirits (nothing contains milk, honey or eggs).
“Our signature cocktail is Pomegranate Gin & Tonic,” Coco says, adding that locals can head in for lunch during the week and for an after-work tipple, every Wednesday to Saturday.
“We’re in an office area, so people are more than welcome to grab a drink.
“We’re open till 10 o’clock most days and every Friday we’ll have a happy hour
from 5-7pm on our tap beers.”
V-Vego also serves up coffee by Goolwa roaster Kommon Grounds – teamed with non-dairy “mylk”, of course.
Doors open at 8am today for breakfast.
