Pranzo’s mix of excellent service, interesting wines and fresh, seasonal produce has made it a favourite of the business set for years, and under its relatively new owners — who are veterans of the Adelaide hospitality sector — it continues to bustle with a who’s who of the Adelaide banking, law and recruitment community. Host Aaron is more than likely to tempt you with a taste of some new liqueur he is testing out, or a boutique Adelaide Hills wine he has snapped up. Other friendly staff will most likely suggest you start with the charcuterie — take their advice — and regale you with a specials list which often includes some interesting game and fresh local fish. Rabbit often finds its way on to the menu while the blue swimmer crab pasta made with “crazy water” is delicious. There are also uncomplicated pizza options if you’re after a simple lunch. The laneway setting provides a peaceful haven in the middle of the city and it’s a great spot for some CBD people-watching.
