Picnics by the beach will be a breeze this summer, thanks to a new cafe and produce store in Brighton.

The Seller Door — which is part cafe, part market — is making the most of its seaside location by inviting diners to create a picnic hamper to take away.

“People will be able to grab some Adelaide Hills cheese or Barossa Valley smallgoods, McLaren Vale nuts and olives, a basket and a blanket, head down to the beach and bring the basket and blanket back,” says Tom Rodger, 27, who’s running the shop with his brother Ben.

“It really ties in the market and the cafe, all into one. There'll also be mixed platters, cheese platters and dessert platters that we’ll create and if people like a brie, for example, they’ll be able to buy that and take it home with them.”

The Seller Door is all about supporting local, small batch producers “who don’t fit into the Coles and Woolies models”, says Tom. The cafe will have a nutritional focus, serving everything from smoothie bowls and raw desserts by Sweet Nectar queen Jessie Cawte(her Snickers Slice is a must), to fresh salads and panini.

It’s set to open on Friday.
