Good grub for McLaren Vale
MULLYGRUB food truck has become Mullygrub the cafe in McLaren Vale.
IT was the plan all along: father and son team Sean and Alan Mulhollanddreamt of opening a cafe somewhere in the Fleurieu Peninsula, where they would serve simple, but tasty, grub.
But a food truck was the cheaper option and, three years ago, Mullygrub food truck hit the streets.
“We got our name out there and people liked what we were doing,” Sean says. “By the time we got the money together and found a property, it fell naturally.”
Sean and his dad have teamed up with Sean’s sister Imogen and her partner Matthew Veide, to open Mullygrub the cafe, in the main street of McLaren Vale, replacing The Vintage Bean.
The menu expands on the truck’s offerings, including its famous coconut-crusted chicken burger, with the likes of ricotta gnocchi, tempura avocado tacos and a smoked lamb shoulder served with spiced carrots, peas and mint.
“We do a good solid breakfast,” Sean says. “It’s mainly just bacon and eggs down here at the moment.”
Local produce includes meat from Ellis, Villere Coffee and local craft beer and wine.
And truck lovers fear not, because they’re keeping that on the road.
“We’ll be involved in Fridays After Five at Aldinga, and a few Fork on the Roads and the wedding market,” Sean says.
“We have nine or 10 weddings booked in for this season coming up.”
