A BORN-and-bred Barossan with a background in some of the region’s best restaurants has been named the new executive chef at Appellation.

Daniel Murphy, 30, will join his wife Emily Laubsch, the head chef and pastry specialist, in the kitchen where he met her four years ago. Since then he has worked at Fino and, for the past two years, at St Hugo with Mark McNamara, whose influence on Appellation, where he was the founding chef, continues to be profound.

Daniel, below, says he is “ridiculously excited” to be appointed. “I remember leaving Appellation and thinking this would be a dream role in the future,” he says.

Daniel, who will take over from Ryan Edwards in August, says he is looking forward to working alongside his wife.

“We both love food and the industry. It can be ships in the night so both of us are really excited to cook together.”
