Big Shed Brewing teams up with Robern Menz to create most South Australian beer, the BruChoc
What do you get when you team a local craft brewer with our favourite choccy treat? Quite possibly the most South Aussie beer ever created.
An Adelaide-made stout brewed using FruChocs must surely be the most South Australian beer ever created.
Jason Harris and Craig Basford, of the Big Shed Brewing Concern, agree: “Yep, short of making a beer with fritz this is about it.”
The SA icon-inspired dark stout, called BruChocs, launches on Friday on tap and in bottles, to mark FruChocs Appreciation Day.
Mr Harris said the first batch required a mammoth quarter of a tonne of Robern Menz FruChocs fruit.
“The centre, the actual peach and apricot centre of a FruChoc, is used,” said Mr Harris. “We blitzed it, put it into a liquid and then added it into the brew process.
“You’re going to get a pretty big hit of apricot and peach — and a little bit of tartness from the peach and apricot.
“You’ll also get a nice chocolatey kick, too, and a bit of roast from the grains and the normal stout process.”
While Big Shed has previously experimented with a FruChoc-inspired beer, it’s the first time Robern Menz is backing the brew.
“We love working with local businesses like Big Shed who share our philosophy not only for taste and quality, but also an innate sense of fun,” said Robern Menz CEO, Phil Sims.
The Robern Menz team is celebrating FruChocs day at the Gawler Place Canopy from 10am-6pm Friday Aug 23, offering prizes and giveaways.
Adults can party on after at Big Shed Brewery Concern’s Tap Room in Royal Park, which will be celebrating the launch of the new beer from 6pm-10pm.
