BRITISH astronaut Tim Peake stunned his followers after tweeting some incredible snaps of the UK from space.
Major Tim Peake treated his Twitter fans when he uploaded a stunning snap of the UK from his vantage point on the International Space Station.
The picture shows Earth looking beautiful at night, with major towns and cities lit up in the darkness of space.
The 43-year-old uploaded the picture to Twitter with the cheeky caption: “Hey, I recognise that place!”
A second picture shows London at midnight on Saturday, with the caption: “I’d rather be up here ... but only just!!”
In this stunning snap it is easy to make out the City of London and Canary Wharf, since they are the brightest points in the capital.
The dark patches are London’s royal parks and you can clearly see the river Thames snaking through the city and cutting it in two.
Major Peake became the first Brit to perform a space walk earlier this month, after he blasted off from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan in December last year.
The intrepid space explorer is set to spend six months aboard the ISS, which orbits the Earth at an average altitude of 340 kilometres.
