EVER wanted to see a the magic of a Supanova up close?
Two of the galaxy's bravest female heroes - Lara Croft and Princess Leia - have joined forces with Nintendo's most famous sidekick Luigi to launch an online petition to bring Australia's biggest explosion of pop culture to Cairns.
Charlie "Luigi" Kennell from Luigi's Retro Games has embarked on a quest to bring Supanova to the Far North via website change.org.
Supanova Pop Culture Expo kicks off its Brisbane edition today, bringing together geeks, nerds, gamers, comic book addicts, sci-fi heads and fantasy lovers under one roof for a huge weekend of forums, activities, competitions and cosplay (the art of dressing up as your favourite video game, anime or pop culture character).
Notable guests at this weekend's Brisbane event include Songs Of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin and the leading cast of Games Of Thrones, Dean O'Gorman, John Callen and Stephen Hunter from The Hobbit and Dominic Monaghan from Lord Of The Rings and Lost, among many others.
Tired of local cosplay and pop culture lovers having to travel south for Supanova, Mr Kennell said he'd love to see the event outside a major metro area.
Currently it happens in Brisbane, Adelaide, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, leaving local heroes without their spandex.
"I think it would be awesome to see an event the size of Supanova here in Cairns, especially after the success of the recent Japan Expo at Fogarty Park," Mr Kennell said.
"Cairns deserves it."
22-year-old fellow cosplay lover Lily Frieden-Collins, better known to most as her alter-ego of Lara Croft, said she had considered travelling south for Supanova this year but it just cost too much.
"Not really many people from Cairns have the money to fly down to attend, so it would be great to see it up here," Ms Frieden-Collins said.
"I would have loved to see Ian Irvine, one of my favourite authors, and the cast from Game Of Thrones."
