Elon Musk officially rolls out $8-a-month Twitter Blue subscription for verification

After acquiring Twitter, Musk has officially launched his subscription service, Twitter Blue. Here’s what you get for $6.99 a month.

Elon Musk fires half of Twitter’s staff

As promised, Elon Musk’s Twitter announced Saturday that users can get verified with the once sought-after blue check for $US7.99 ($A12.36) a month.

“Get Twitter Blue if you sign up now,” the announcement said.

“Blue checkmark: Power to the people. Your account will get a blue checkmark, just like the celebrities, companies and politicians you follow.”

“Coming soon … Half the ads & much better ones,” the statement added. “Since you’re supporting Twitter in the battle against the bots, we’re going to reward you with half the ads and make them twice as relevant.”

As reported by the New York Post, Twitter also promised that users will be able to post longer videos and that there will be a “priority ranking for quality content”.

Twitter Blue with verification is available on iOS in the US, Canada, New Zealand, Australia and the UK, according to the company.

Added Musk in a tweet: “Trash me all day, but it’ll cost $8.”

While Australian Twitter users can subscribe for a reduced $6.99 a month, it appears that not all features are available to Aussies.

In Australia, Twitter Blue customers can currently only edit their tweets and customise their navigation menus and app icons.

Other features like a revamped “news reading experience” and early access to editing tweets and NFT Profile Pictures are reportedly coming soon.
