Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano is erupting again, the seventh time since December 2024, according to the US Geological Survey (USGS).
Halema’uma’u began erupting on Monday at 6:42pm, local time, and it’s lava flow has since covered 20 per cent of the volcano’s crater floor.
The USGS tweeted that lave fountains as tall as 120 feet high are apparent at different vents in the volcano.
Halema’uma’u is famous for its dramatic plumes of lava which have flowed into the ocean. The cooling lava is extending the mass of the island.
The eruption is, at the moment, contained within an enclosed area of the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, but officials have advised that people stay away from the area as a precaution.
A warning has been issued about the health ricks of volcanic smog, known as vog, entering the atmosphere and contributing to hazardous air quality.
People can monitor the volcano activity at the USGS YouTube channel.
