A pair of career highest scores was the stand-out in the last round of the Sci-Fleet Motors First Grade men’s cricket competition, while the next generation of female players are closing in on the Finals of the KFC T20 Max women’s competition.

Ipswich opener Bryn Llewellyn and West wicket-keeper and opening batsman Isaiah Snell saluted for their teams both producing big centuries.

Snell, who has been training with the Queensland Bulls recently, scored 156 in West’s draw with Sunshine Coast while Llewellyn led the charge for the Hornets against Wynnum-Manly with 144 to ensure a hard-fought win.

The Scorchers finished at 7-352, with the experienced Alecz Day hitting 107no, before Snell and fellow opener Prunav Susarla (66) and the prolific Sam Truloff (56no) batted the day away to be 1-280 at stumps.

While Souths opener Logan Duval dashed to a first day century, his opening partner Aryan Jain brought up his ton on the resumption of the round against Sandgate-Redcliffe.

Jain, a Queensland 2nd XI representative, produced 117 as Souths declared at 5-353 after dismissing the Gators for 207 last week.

Sandgate-Redcliffe got to 8-219 in their second innings, with a fine 95 from Jack Cooper, whose older brother Tom was part of the Dutch team that upset South Africa in the T20 World Cup this week, ensuring they avoided an outright loss.

An explosive 104 from Jano Coetzee and a near run-a-ball 88 from Bulls batsman Jack Clayton lifted University of Queensland to a comfortable win over Toombul (141 and 3-144) at WEP Harris Oval.

Coetzee’s 81-ball innings included 14 fours and four sixes as Uni finished with 4-351.

Premier Cricket heavyweights Norths and Gold Coast slugged out a draw, with the Dolphins scoring 6-324 in reply to the Vikings 344.

Hugo Burdon (73), English batsman Callum Taylor (66) and Queensland youth players Lachy Aitken (44), Lachlan Crump (44no) and Ashton Gumm (46 no) all got amongst the runs for the Gold Coast.

In Third Grade, South Brisbane’s Steve Roy produced a mighty 174 as he and Peter Strain (71) put on 220 for the second wicket on the way to a first innings win against Norths in the Roy Tanner Shield competition.

There was also a high-scoring win by Toombul in Second Grade at Ken Mackay Oval, with the home side scoring 7-366 to chase down University of Queensland’s score of 348.

The women’s T20 Max competition is rapidly closing in on the Finals, with a string of eye-catching efforts across the two rounds of matches on Sunday.

Sandgate-Redcliffe stalwart Tess Cooper (86 off 66) and Queensland Under-19 player Taylor Stumer (61 off 48) delivered a comfortable win over Gold Coast

Another Queensland Under-19 rep, Sunshine Coast wicket-keeper Mikayla Wrigley led the charge for the Scorchers with her knock of 53 not out helping her side to 4-140 against Ipswich. But Hornets ‘keeper Caitlin Galeano was not overshadowed, with her innings of 62no the highlight of their total of 5-119.

Valley and University of Queensland produced a ding-dong battle in their morning clash, with New Zealand import Anlo Van Deventer’s 70 from 50 balls helping University to a competitive 5-148.

But Brisbane Heat and Queensland Fire batter Mikayla Hinkley had other ideas, with a super 74 not out to take Valley to 2-149.

Another solid knock from Sunshine Coast opener Georgie Boyce (68) helped the Scorchers to knock over Sandgate-Redcliffe in their afternoon game while a pair of half centuries to Queensland Fire leg-spinner Grace Parsons (67) and opener Tara Wheeler (61no) was enough to secure a win for the Gold Coast over Ipswich.

The final two regular competition rounds of the KFC T20 Max Women’s competition will be held on Sunday with the Finals to follow the following weekend.

LORD’S TAVERNERS TEAM OF THE WEEK

Daniel Grey (South Brisbane): Grey had a classy 45 run knock in the face of an unbelievable Wynnum-Manly bowling attack. Gray hit four boundaries in his 78 ball innings and was the standout batter in his side along with Luke Wegner who hit an unbeaten 36.

Ted Gossett (Wynnum-Manly): Gossett led the bowling attack. With figures of 2/17 off 10 overs, bowling three maidens in the process, Gossett set the tone. He also knocked over South Brisbane’s No.1 and No.2 batsmen.

Talon Reichert and Kurt Bass (Sunshine Coast): This duo did damage with the red, each collecting three wickets as their side swept through Darling Downs for 88. It’s worth noting Bass and Reichert picked up the first four batters and bowled economically.

Jamie Diggles (Sunshine Coast): Opening batsman Jamie Diggles is in some great form. This week, he hit 45 off 55, doing his job and more in the run chase.

Daniel Skipwith and Ravijit Singh Buttar (Western Suburbs): 89 and 53 each. Does it get much better from your openers? I think not, with Skipwith hitting four 4’s and a 6 in his 89 run battering. Buttar played a very steady game, scoring at a strike rate just shy of 50. The Western Suburbs propelled into the box seat after this statement.

Kane Neilson (Sandgate-Redcliffe): Neilson did his best opening the batting, chasing 205 off 50 overs. He scored an unbeaten 89, so he well and truly weathered the storm. But, off 152 deliveries, meaning his teammates needed to step up and have a cameo or two—in a hurry. Western Suburbs bowler Will Pamenter made it even harder, taking three middle order scalps to halt the run rate.

Eshwin Kapoor (Toombul): Kapoor had the best bowling performance in the Tavs’ competition over the weekend, dismissing five Wide Bay boys who had no answers to his bowling masterclass. He bowled three maidens and only went at 1.8 an over. Now that’s impressive. They weren’t lower order batsmen either. Kapoor spearheaded Toombuls attack which had denied Wide Bay any chance of chasing down 133.

Patrick Burchard (Toombul) and Isaac Lutz (Wide Bay): When Lutz had the ball in his hand, he makes things happen. That was the case when he shrunk Toombul’s total to just 13 with his ‘fourfa.’ But, Burchard put on his cape and saved the day.

Burchard, who came in at No.7, scored a much needed 41 to get his side a defendable total.

Louis Morris (Northern Suburbs) and Chase Rodgers (Redlands): Morris’ domination with the ball gave No.9 batsman Chase Rodgers the chance to have a bat and jeez did he deliver. Rodgers scored 46 in a hurry, hitting six 4’s and a 6. But, his knock at the death wasn’t enough to pull Redlands out of the ditch three early Morris wickets put them in.

Alex Procopis and Cruz Baker (Northern Suburbs): There was never a doubt for the Northern Suburbs with these two at the crease. Chasing 162, these two put on a masterclass, scoring the runs with over 20 overs to spare. Procopis has to be in the form of his life given his recent scoring efforts. This week he added 75, while Baker had an unbeaten 46 off 36, where he hit three big ones.

James Alexander (UQ): A cracking knock for the No.3 saw UQ post a respectable 178. Alexander cruised to 75 off 87 in a superb batting effort where he was undone running between the wickets. A classy innings on his home turf.

Player of the week: Ned Hanrahan. Picture – Facebook/Ned Hanrahan.

Ned Hanrahan (Gold Coast): Hanrahan got a start but he just needed someone around him to do the same. He hit 40 off 62 and one more of those knocks would have done the job for the Gold Coast who fell short by 28 runs.

Kori Ramsden and Jack Hillier (Ipswich): Ramsden continues to sound alarms around the competition with his consistency bringing up scores. This weekend he recorded another 50. Is there a bowler he can’t face?

Hillier one-upped Ramsden with a super 68, stretching the Ippy’ boys total out to 179.

Harry Frost (Valley): Frost couldn’t have started the Valley chase off any better. Seriously, it does not get much better than a quick 41 off 46 when facing the new ball. He laid the foundation for Tigh Morris’ 55 and James Brandon’s 29. They only just got there in the end, with five balls to spare. Had Frost failed to get a start then it would’ve been upset central at Ivor Marsden Memorial park.
