Teen sensation Ollie Peake will make his Big Bash League debut for the Melbourne Renegades against Brisbane Heat this evening.

Peake, 18, was added to the Renegades squad last week along with Zimbabwean batter Tawanda Muyeye.

The last-placed Renegades need a miracle to make the BBL finals — requiring a big win over the Heat in their final game for the season and other results to go their way — and have turned to youth.

The accomplished batter’s call-up comes just days after his Geelong teammate Callum Stow took 1-36 in his first BBL match for the Renegades, while Peake’s U19 World Cup teammate Harry Dixon made his debut last week.

Peake shot to prominence in Australia’s World Cup win in South Africa in February 2024 with cameos in the semi-final and final after being flown over as an injury replacement.

He overcame a fractured leg in June playing school footy for Geelong Grammar to make two centuries in Australia’s U19 tour of India.

The left-hander has played for Victoria’s second XI this summer and hit a century for Vic Country at the U19 national championships last month.

Peake’s cricket IQ, preparation and work ethic has wowed onlookers at Geelong Cricket Club, where he plundered his first Premier Cricket century at the age of 17.

The South Barwon product told this masthead last week that signing with the Renegades was a dream come true.

“It’s always been the dream to do what you love for a job so this is the first start for me, to get paid to play cricket,” he said.

“Just learning off the guys who have made it, been there and done that, is pretty cool.”

The Renegades’ clash with the Heat kicks off at 5pm at Marvel.
