UFC star Bryce Mitchell’s flat earth theory, government steak ban conspiracy and Elon Musk rant

In a sport filled with controversial characters, one UFC star stands out for his conspiracy theories – that include a belief the government will ban steaks. But, behind it all, Bryce Mitchell also has a heart of gold.

He’s the flat-earth conspiracy theorist who regularly cops intense online criticism for his collection of fringe views and radical ideologies.

But he also has a heart of gold, and once he retires from cage fighting, wants to be able to feed his community with fresh produce grown on his own farm.

Meet featherweight UFC fighter Bryce Mitchell.

When we spoke this week, the 30-year-old – who fights jiu-jitsu wizard Kron Gracie at UFC 310 in Las Vegas this weekend – was going viral on social media after giving a wild rant about Elon Musk during an interview with Michael Bisping.

“This is the type of technology that the anti-Christ is going to put in people, when you start getting chips in the head, they’re going to monitor everything you buy, everything you sell,” Mitchell told Bisping.

“Elon Musk putting chips in peoples’ brains, acting like he’s a doctor. His cars suck, he’s never been to space. He knows the Earth is flat, and he’s a lying rat bastard.”

But behind the unhinged tirades, Mitchell is a softly spoken family man, who cares deeply about his community.

That’s why, when he’s not fighting, he raises livestock and chickens and farms extensively on his plot of land in rural Arkansas.

He’s proud of the house he built with his own two hands, and has big goals beyond fighting – even if he occasionally veers into the abyss when talking about it.

“I wanna live in a $200,000 home, but I can’t afford one, so I built one myself and saved on labour costs,” he says. “I wanna farm because the government’s so evil that they’re gonna control people.

“They’re gonna make steak illegal, or they’re gonna make it where you can’t afford steaks – mark my words.

“It’s not gonna be long before the average man can’t afford streak.

“So I’ve got steak at my own farm. I’ve got eggs at my own farm. I don’t depend on the government or nobody else.

“I plan to be able to feed my family and community and stop this evil oppression through farming.

“Farming leads to freedom.”

Mitchell is also hospitable, if you’re willing to take him up on his invitation to outback Arkansas.

“You can come on over, brother, I’ve got a freezer full of steaks and it’s free,” he says. “That’s the freedom farming gives you.

“What they’re selling in the stores – pizza rolls and Doritos – those things’ll kill you, brother.

“Steak is actual food, it heals your body and will keep you alive longer. So, I’m interested in teaching my son how to be healthy and how to live off the land.”

Eventually, when his fighting career is over, Mitchell wants to be able to feed more people than just those living under his roof.

“I’d just like to farm all day,” he says. “That’s what I like to do. I like to work on tractors, and be around animals.

“I want to help feed as many people as possible. Once I’m able to feed me and my family, I can start feeding other people too.

“That’s what God’s gonna do. He’s gonna bless my farm, and it’s gonna be so fruitful.”

First though, Mitchell must get past the 5-2 Gracie, who is the grandson of BJJ co-founder Helio Gracie.

If he’s successful, Mitchell – whose only two losses in the UFC are to current champion Ilia Topuria and top-ranked veteran Josh Emmett – still has his sights set on winning a world title.

“I’m expecting Kron to move forward and not get tired,” he says. “In all of his fights, he never stops moving and never quits.

“He’s very unconventional, so you don’t know what you’re gonna get. Then you mix in my craziness and, dude, it’s just gonna be an awesome match-up.

“I’m definitely going to win a title, for sure, but I just need to perform to the best of my ability, because I feel I haven’t done that in a while.”
