After a dejecting 46-8 loss to the Storm on Friday night, there was little reprieve for the Broncos as their worst nightmare was confirmed on Saturday.
“A huge kick in the teeth,” is how Fox League expert Michael Ennis described it.
Titans Head of Performance Mal Meninga confirmed on Saturday afternoon that Brisbane young gun David Fifita would be leaving Red Hill to take up a new deal with the Titans next season.

The 20-year has reportedly signed on for a record-breaking $3.5 million deal over three years.
The Broncos weren’t able to compete with the Gold Coast’s big money offer and their recent results wouldn’t have filled Fifita with much confidence in staying either.
Brisbane just can’t catch a break and Ennis said the news of Fifita’s departure was exactly what they didn’t need as they look to restore pride in the jersey.
Speaking on Fox League, Ennis labelled it an “enormous blow” for the Broncos.
“To get David Fifita is one of the biggest signings (in recent history).
“It’s enormous for the Titans, but it’s an enormous blow for the Brisbane Broncos.
“I can’t remember a player of that significance leaving the Brisbane Broncos. And to go to their little brother is a huge kick in the teeth for where they are right now.
“This guy’s a superstar.”
Laurie Daley said earlier in the month that the Broncos simply couldn’t afford to lose Fifita.
“If they lose David Fifita they’ve severely stuffed it up. They’ve severely stuffed it up because he is their best. He is their most promising, best young forward out of all of them,” Daley said on the Big Sports Breakfast at the time.
“How can you lose him? You can’t lose him. You can lose some of the others but you can’t lose him.
“That’s a monumental stuff-up if they lose him.”
The feeling was shared among most of the rugby league community, who took to social media to question how Fifita’s departure tied into the club’s collapse this season.
Even former Bronco Jharal Yow Yeh did not hold back when the news broke.
This is bullshit ..... WTF have we come to, to lose a great kid like David Fifita, I wish you all the best brother. I hope all your dreams come true â¤ï¸

Losing David Fifita is the biggest recruitment and retention mistake in our history - and we're talking about a club who messed up signing Greg Inglis, lost Folau and Hunt to AFL and apparently missed every great Qlder who played for another club

We lost him. To another NRL team
David Fifita is a great get for the Titans. One of the few players that justifies overpaying in their situation.

Giving a 20-year-old $1 million+ carries obvious potential issues but Iâm fizzing to see Fifita, Faâasuamaleaui & Fotuaika playing together. https://t.co/JYQUDQmMXI
Now @brisbanebroncos have officially lost David Fifita. Perhaps itâs time the CEO & management stepped down. Worst year in history. Worst recruitment. Worst team. Why are the top exempt when they donât make tough decisions on senior players & canât retain the future? Disaster

Some defended the decision, claiming that the Broncos made the right choice not raising their money for the youngster.
$3.75m over 3 years

$1m more than broncos final offer
19 year old, no leadership with a knee injury
I cannot believe the money Titans have offered to David Fifita you could buy 4 or 5 regular 1st graders for that sought of coin ð¤·ââï¸ð¤·ââï¸
