The Brewer Shield mid-season report card: Best XI to this point, every batting and bowling stat

At the halfway point of the NSW Cricket Brewer Shield season, the U18s girls have been on fire. We rate our best XI of the season, plus SEE EVERY PLAYER’S BATTING AND BOWLING STATS.

THE Brewer Shield has provided plenty of excitement so far in 2022 with the best young women in the state plying their trade in the prestigious competition.

From the incredible standout performances through to the most consistent, we look back on the 11 rounds of play at the halfway mark of the season.

1. EMILY POWELL (Sydney)

Stats: 402 runs at 50.25 (best 106), 7 wickets at 16 (best 3-30)

Forms one half of the Brewer Shield’s best opening partnership, Powell has been getting it done with both the bat and ball this season.

Sits second in total runs for the year, boasts the highest score of the season and has seven wickets as well.

2. HOLLY TOMS (Sydney)

Stats: 442 runs at 73.67 (best 103*), 1 wicket at 33 (best 1-9)

Has stamped her authority in season 2022/23 as one of the most promising young women in Sydney cricket.

Her top score of an unbeaten 103 has helped her to top the run count for the season so far, at an unbelievable average of 73.

3. HANNAH MOSS (Manly-Warringah)

Stats: 258 runs at 64.5 (best 72*), 6 wickets at 10.67 (best 2-3)

Can fill in any spot among the top order, but has been very effective at first drop for Manly-Warringah.

Attacks the game well and always does a good job of valuing her wicket (dismissed just four times in eight innings), as well as being a valuable strike weapon with the ball.

4. SKYE HALMARICK (Sydney)

Stats: 290 runs at 58 (best 72*), 4 wickets at 28.75 (best 1-10)

Her partnerships with opening teammates Powell and Toms have helped Sydney to a great start to the season.

Scoring the ball well at over 102 per cent this season, Halmarick’s consistency makes her a lock for this team.

5. SHILOH JULIEN (UTS North Sydney)

Stats: 389 runs at 55.57 (best 69), 15 wickets at 9 (best 4-8)

A supremely talented player who will fill an all-rounder spot in the best XI.

The true testament to her ability? Is the only player in the competition to rank top three in both runs scored and wickets taken.

6. CAOIMHE BRAY (Greater Hunter Coast)

Stats: 274 runs at 45.67 (best 75), 11 wickets at 9.36 (best 3-31)

The definition of a true all-rounder, the Greater Hunter Coast young gun is playing well above her age and looks a genuine star of the future.

Has the best strike rate in the competition at 128, averages over 45 and has taken 11 wickets in a remarkable start to the year.

7+. MADDIE CASPERS (Gordon)

Stats: 194 runs at 48.5 (best 79*)

Takes the gloves for our side and the Gordon wicketkeeper has been chiming in well to lead her team in average runs.

Scores the ball at a good rate (almost a run a ball) and has enjoyed a very solid season behind the stumps.

8. BELLA STEVENS (Campbelltown Camden)

Stats: 14 wickets at 7.07 (best 5-3), 122 runs at 13.56 (best 43)

Comes into the XI for her damaging fast bowling ability, but has shown she is more than capable with the bat in hand as well.

Two five-wicket hauls emphasise the impact she has on a game, including incredible figures of 5-3 in round 11.

9. ELIZABETH MCSHANE (Parramatta)

Stats: 12 wickets at 8.5 (best 5-17)

An opening bowler who does a good job with the new ball and stabilising the attack against opposing top orders.

So effective with the ball, highlighted by taking 12 wickets for the season in just 30 overs bowled, including a five-wicket haul.

10. SOPHIE CLARK (St George Sutherland)

Stats: 13 wickets at 7.54 (best 5-1)

Is proving to be one of the most consistent bowlers in Sydney, and has been rewarded with a strong season for the Slayers.

Her performance in round six will go down as one of the best of the year in any form of the cricket, taking figures of 5-1.

11. LARA HUGHES (Manly-Warringah)

Stats: 12 wickets at 8.33 (best 4-15)

Gets through a mountain of work and has done a superb job of keeping things tight with her bowling.

Concedes just 2.17 runs per over, the best in the competition, and has been rewarded with a strong haul of 12 wickets.

12th woman - MARLIE PATHIRANA (Parramatta)

Stats: 232 runs at 23.2 (best 72), 13 wickets at 13.38 (best 4-25)

A consistent performer for a strong Parramatta team who opens the batting and is always strong with the ball.

OTHER NOTABLE STATS

Jessica Robertson (Bankstown Sports) and Vani Badhana (Parramatta) have only been denied because of the incredibly strong opening ranks within the side, with the pair posting impressive run totals of 315 and 296 respectively.

Madison Kedwell of Northern District has taken 11 wickets this season and is right on the fringe of the best XI, as is Manly-Warringah’s Darcey Whiteley, who has posted 12 wickets at an impressive average.
