World No. 1 female tennis player Simona Halep has cast her support behind Port Adelaide and reminded the club how fortunate it is to have the expertise of Darren Cahill.
Romanian Halep, 27, has become an unofficial ambassador for the club and made it known to her followers on Instagram and Twitter — close to one million — that she would keep a close eye on the club’s progress next season.
Cahill took up a vacant position on the board earlier this month after announcing he would take a year off from the grind of the tennis circuit to spend more time with his family at an important stage of his children’s education.

“I know how much this club means to D (Darren), his dad and his family,” Halep wrote. “They are lucky to have the best tennis coach in the world on the PAFC board.
“It has become my AFL club also so I wish the players and team good luck in 2019.”
Cahill, 53, took Halep to the top of the women’s game after previously coaching both Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi to the top of the rankings on the ATP Tour.
His father, John, played in four premierships at Port Adelaide and coached the Magpies to 10 SANFL flags. He was also the club’s inaugural AFL coach.
