Mirra Andreeva is a straight-up cold-blooded savage.
The Russian 17-year-old made history when toppling world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka at Indian Wells on Monday — blowing tennis commentators away.
The teenage prodigy’s triumph in the tournament final in California saw her join the elite company of Serena Williams and Stefi Graf as the three women to have knocked out the top-two ranked players in a single WTA Tournament before the age of 18.
Andreeva is also the youngest women’s player to win the prestigious tournament since Serena Williams in 1999.
The 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 comeback win gives Andreeva her second WTA 1000 title after she last month become the youngest ever player to win an elite 1000 level crown with her triumph in Dubai.
You can watch the brutal notes in the video player above.
Apart from her sizzling form, the other talking point to emerge was Andreeva’s notebook, which was caught by Tennis Channel cameras during her semi-final victory over Iga Swiatek on Saturday.
Andreeva whipped out the notebook after she coughed up the second set to world No. 2 Swiatek. It clearly made a difference as she recovered to win the match 7-6 1-6 6-3. It helped that Swiatek suffered a meltdown in the third set, smashing a ball at a ball boy.
Commentators on the Tennis Channel speculated most of Andreeva’s notes would have come from her coach Conchita Martinez.
American tennis legend Lindsay Davenport said in commentary she approved of the tactic.
“It’s amazing,” the three-time grand slam champ said.
“A lot of people do journal. But to take it out mid-match... We always see Iga with one as well, but you can see every single match she (Andreeva) has played this tournament with those detailed notes.”
Leading tennis social media commentator Bastien Fachan on X described the notebook as a “Death Note”.
“Obsessed with this shot of 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva flicking through the pages of her high-school-style notebook as the wind reveals the names of every opponent she’s cold-bloodedly taken out in Indian Wells,” he wrote.
The footage has gone viral with more than 600,000 views on X.
Tennis fans loved the savagery of the book with some describing it as a “kill list”.
Other names written in Andreeva’s journal — as exposed by the Tennis Channel footage — include her earlier opponents Elina Svitolina, Elena Rybakina, Clara Tauson and Varvara Gracheva.
She already has 19 names on the list for 2025 with her WTA record for the year now standing at 19-3.
Andreeva congratulated herself during her trophy presentation speech - and it has got many fans giggling.
“I would again like to thank myself for fighting until the end and for always believing in me and for never quitting,” she said.
“I tried to run like a rabbit today. It was really hard to just keep up, so I just tried my best and that’s why I would thank myself, because I think I played a little part [in the win], also.”
It was the second time in three years that Sabalenka has been beaten in the final of the event.
“I have a love-hate relationship with this place,” she said.
“I’ll just put this trophy on top of another one and pretend it’s the trophy for winning.”
Andreeva’s victory over Sabalenka means she will return to the top 10 rankings on the WTA Tour.
