The Round 7 SuperCoach stable that the early money markets would pick

Today is a stand-alone race day for Round 7 of SuperCoach Racing, don’t worry if you’re too busy doing the Cup form to pick a stable – we’ve done the work for you!

The races to target for Round 7 of SuperCoach Racing.
The races to target for Round 7 of SuperCoach Racing.

It’s Cup Day but don’t let the rush to get your bet on see you slide down the SuperCoach Racing rankings.

Round seven takes in the Tuesday meeting at Flemington as a stand-alone which means we have 10 races with one Group 1 (The Cup) and two Group 3 races to target. Below I have run all ten races through the metric in a bid to identify those horses which have the perfect blend of SuperCoach value and keen interest in the market.

MELBOURNE CUP (Group 1)

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score)
Mer De Glace $350,000 $8.50 2.98
Finche $400,000 $8 3.2
Vow And Declare $300,000 $12 3.6
Constantinople $425,000 $9.50 4.04
Il Paradiso $275,00 $15 4.13
Surprise Baby $350,000 $14 4.9
Mustajeer $350,000 $18 6.3
Prince Of Arran $350,000 $18 6.3
Downdraft $300,000 $21 6.3
Cross Counter $475,000 $15 7.13

ANALYSIS

With fourth in the Cup ‘paying’ the same amount of points as a win in seven of the races in this round – and the first two placegetters earning an increase in value – I’m loading up in the Cup. I’m also breaking with my convention of trusting in the metric simply because this is one race I’ve had time to really work the form and I’m going to back myself to beat the market (watch this bite me on the bum!). Finche is my top pick in the race and goes in as my captain. Around him I have put Vow And Declare, Mustajeer, Constantinople and Il Paradiso (because I could not afford Master Of Reality).

OTTAWA STAKES (Group 3)

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Muntaseera $125,000 $4.40 0.55 0.94
Marchena $125,000 $6.50 0.81 1.38
Aryaaf $100,000 $8.50 0.85 1.45
Amorosity $100,000 $9.50 0.95 1.62
Cut It Out $100,000 $11 1.1 1.87

ANALYSIS

No surprise to see the Group 3 race restricted to two-year-old fillies feature prominently in the top-25 rankings this round. Four of the horses listed here have top-10 metrics for the round and you would be well placed to take Muntaseera and then any one of Marchena, Aryaaf or Amorosity.

JIM BEAM BLACK STAKES (Group 3)

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Jamaican Rain $300,000 $4 1.2 2.04
Sweet Scandal $250,000 $4.80 1.2 2.04
La Tigeresa $175,000 $7 1.23 2.08
Into The Abyss $200,000 $8.50 1.7 2.89
Victory Kingdom $175,000 $10 1.75 2.98

ANALYSIS

Despite the Group 3 points bonus on offer the two leading candidates in this race, Jamaican Rain and Sweet Scandal, are sitting 20th and 21st on the overall metric. I’d be happy to leave this race alone and pick more favoured runners in ‘lesser’ races.

GRINDERS COFFEE ROASTERS TROPHY

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Phaistos $175,000 $3.20 0.56 1.24
William Thomas $200,000 $4.60 0.92 2.03
Bravo Tango $200,000 $5 1 2.21
East Indiaman $200,000 $5 1 2.21
Yeldarb $150,000 $13 1.95 4.31

ANALYSIS

An early favourite and cheaper than the three behind him on the metric, Phaistos is an easy pick here.

TAB TROPHY

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Romani Girl $175,000 $4.80 0.84 1.86
Sure Knee $200,000 $4.20 0.84 1.86
Seewhatshebrings $175,000 $5 0.88 1.93
One More Toy $150,000 $8 1.2 2.66
Extreme Pride $150,000 $10 1.5 3.31

ANALYSIS

I think this is a race worth taking one runner from, but the three leaders in the metric have very little between them. Maybe wait and see if the market on Tuesday has any more guidance – failing that I’ll be taking Sure Knee and trusting in Waller/McEvoy.

THE MACCA’S RUN

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Shared Ambition $200,000 $1.75 0.35 0.77
Gayatri $200,000 $6 1.2 2.65
Exemplar $200,000 $10 2 4.42
Kentucky Diva $150,000 $14 2.1 4.64
Serenade The Stars $175,000 $16 2.8 6.19

ANALYSIS

Shared Ambition is the best rated horse of the round. Lock it in and move on.

SCHEPPERVESCENCE PLATE

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Santorini Summer $125,000 $7 0.88 1.93
Garner $100,000 $9 0.9 1.99
McLaren $75,000 $13 0.98 2.15
Athiri $150,000 $6.50 0.98 2.15
Can't Be Done $150,000 $8 1.2 2.65

ANALYSIS

With the top two picks, Santorini Summer and Garner currently 17th and 18th overall this is a race I would skip.

FURPHY PLATE

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Junipal $200,000 $4.20 0.84 1.86
So You Win $275,000 $5 1.38 3.04
Looks Like Elvis $225,000 $6.50 1.46 3.23
Super Titus $200,000 $9.50 1.9 4.2
Plein Ciel $250,000 $10 2.5 5.52

ANALYSIS

Junipal is the only horse I want from this race.

MSS SECURITY PLATE

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Parsifal $200,000 $3.70 0.74 1.64
Royal Symphony $300,000 $5 1.5 3.31
Tactical Advantage $225,000 $7 1.58 3.48
More Than Exceed $200,000 $9 1.8 3.98
Milwaukee $275,000 $7 1.93 4.25

ANALYSIS

Parsifal has a top-ten metric and is a fine pick from this race.

HKJC STAKES

Horse SC Price Early Odds Metric Rank (score) Metric adjusted to G1
Xilong $125,000 $3.40 0.43 0.94
Pretty Brazen $125,000 $5 0.63 1.38
California Salto $75,000 $8.50 0.64 1.41
Betcha Flying $150,000 $5.50 0.83 1.82
It's Kind Of Magic $125,00 $10 1.25 2.76

ANALYSIS

The top three here all fall within the top seven overall metric scores. Xilong must be in your stable, if you can stretch to Pretty Brazen then I would take that horse but if you need to save $50,000 then California Salto is a fine substitute.

JOCKEYS

Jockey Rides Under $5 Under $10 Avg. Odds
Craig Williams 10 1 5 $10.75
Dwayne Dunn 7 1 2 $18
Tommy Berry 7 0 5 $11.71
Damien Oliver 9 1 4 $15.19
Kerrin McEvoy 6 2 3 $11.27
Damian Lane 8 1 2 $16.92

ANALYSIS

Craig Williams will be riding for the Belalie Beasts this round as he’s got a full book and should be a bit of a POD to the glamour picks of McEvoy, Lane and Berry etc.
