LINDSAY Park will chase its first $200,000 Magic Millions Adelaide 2yo Classic (1200m) at Morphettville on Monday with smart filly Nomothaj.
Nomothaj defeated Tony McEvoy’s brilliant filly Sunlight on debut before being one of a number of horses hampered in the roughly run Gold Coast Magic Millions feature.
She bounced back to winning form with a gritty win in the Festival Stakes at Flemington last week and David Hayes said the Adelaide race looked ideal with a Sydney campaign on the radar.
“The conditions of the race really suit her being a dual Listed winner at the set weights,’’ Hayes said.
“She’s a pretty classy filly, she’s beaten the Golden Slipper favourite, so she looks pretty well placed in the race.
“She’s on trial for Sydney, or the paddock, we’ll know after Adelaide,’’ he said.
Nomothaj, a $420,000 purchase for Shadwell Stud, is marked a $2 favourite with Ladbrokes ahead of Double Denman who comes off a last-start Morphettville win and is one of two runners for Gold Coast Magic Millions winning trainer Tony McEvoy.
Jamie Kah rides $5.50 second favourite Double Denman with McEvoy booking Victoria jockey Michael Dee for debutant Ablaan who was purchased for $230,000 at last year’s Gold Coast Sale.
The Henry Dwyer-trained Goldifox has been specked at big odds back from $31 into $13 on the back on an encouraging debut.
Just nine horses lined up in last year’s race won by Unbreakable Miss while 16 accepted this year with 14 set to run.
MEANWHILE top local sprinters Steel Frost and Casino Wizard will again lock horns in the $100,000 Listed Matrice Stakes (1200m).
Both horses are first up from successful campaigns in Adelaide in December, Steel Frost winning the Listed City of Marion Stakes before Casino Wizard turned the tables in the Listed Christmas Handicap at Morphettville on Boxing Day.
Ladbrokes has Steel Frost a $3.70 favourite ahead of last year’s winner Casino Wizard at $3.80 while the Darren Weir-trained Stellar Collision is also challenging for favouritism at $3.90 on the back of a last-start Morphettville win.
Stellar Collision is the lone Victorian in a loaded SA sprint that features seven last-start winners while veteran local Riziz is chasing his second Matrice after winning back in 2014.
