THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOULBURN
RACE 1
Williams Bay is an exceptionally well-bred filly by Capitalist out of a mare who won a Grade 2 in Canada who has left a Grade 3 winner in the USA and a Group 3 placegetter closer to home at Caulfield. As for Williams Bay, she was impressive winning her maiden at Newcastle on March 17, won a trial since, and lobs in a very winnable race. Panzarella was tipped out after her November 19 win at Orange in a pretty deep maiden for out there. Agent Moon’s only win so far was at this same track and distance.
Bet: Williams Bay to win
RACE 2
Bleue’s Choice is a locally trained gelding who has raced here at home three times for a win and two seconds. That win happened to be at his most recent outing and it was over 1000m on a heavy track. Will be prominent for a long way as always. Zanshin has raced 13 times, nine of them at 1000m. Both career wins have come at 1000m. The draw is not helpful but you never know. Deni Gal on the other hand, has drawn perfectly for her return and first run for Terry Robinson.
Bet: Bleue’s Choice to win
RACE 3
Ausbred Bluebird is a well-related filly by Teofilo out of a Savabeel mare named Fromelles who won a Rotorua Cup in New Zealand. Given all that, there is a real possibility that Ausbred Bluebird will run 2000m and more as she goes on but whatever the case, a mile here, second-up is just perfect. Ditto all of that for Quattro Pensieri who is a So You Think filly having her fourth run this preparation and her first at 1600m which she ought to relish. Dundeel son Interventionist is an improver but make no mistake - he needs to.
Bet: Ausbred Bluebird to win, exacta 3 to beat 6
RACE 4
Masked Maree has raced eight times for one win and little, or nothing else. It is worth keeping in mind however that her P.B was in a Goulburn 1200m maiden; this of course being a Goulburn 1200m Class 1 but hardly a stellar line-up to be fair. Finished last in her two trials but more than likely, by design. Onehelvason has raced five times; two of them have been at Goulburn - where the record shows a win and a neck second to the handy As You Were that day. Trialled like he is both ready and able to win. Same goes for Letmeletgo.
Bet: Masked Maree each-way
RACE 5
Titanic Award has accepted for Warwick Farm on Wednesday and could easily be saved for that meeting. Nice prospect. Dar Legend is a son of Dundeel out of multiple Adelaide stakes-winning mare Cavaloce. Trialling well and could be an improver on that he did in Melbourne when John Sadler had him.
Bet: Titanic Award to win
RACE 6
Reoffender is trained at Warwick Farm but it is a real ‘Goulburn horse’. The son of Snitzel has been there five times for two wins and three seconds. Compare that to his overall record of 15 starts for three wins and three seconds and you see why he is so likeable here. Throw in a ripping good trial at home the other day. Southern Appeal can be a bit hot and cold but is one of those horses that can ambush them late when circumstances permit. Keep safe. Rathvilly Miss is one for one at the Goulburn 1300m. Sizzle Chic is in red-hot form.
Bet: Reoffender to win, Daily Double 1st leg (7), 2nd leg (3)
RACE 7
Piaciuta was $19 to $26 when she had her first start in a Newcastle 900m maiden on April 21. She well and truly belied the drift, let alone the big odds, with her fast finishing second. Most observers would probably agree that she was run of the race even including the winner. Extra 100m will assist no doubt. Divine Okay ran last on debut at Nowra back in September. Trialled twice ahead of the return and was sharp each time. Kimura trialled in a deep heat at Randwick eight-days ago. Good trainer, good jockey, not so good barrier.
Bet: Piaciuta to win
RACE 8
King Of Spades is a handsome son of Newhaven Park resident stallion, Xtravagant, chasing his second career win at start number eight this afternoon. The John O’Shea-trained three-year-old deserves a little understanding and forgiveness for his last start fifth of five at Kembla. He was first-up and it was a very heavy Heavy 10 that day. Unwritten has been costly at times but on the positive, his only win thus far was at this same track and distance. Handles ‘Soft’ but seemingly nothing worse. Rent A Rock was $21 into $13 at Wagga last week and almost pulled it off.
Bet: King Of Spades to win
