An emotional Glen Boss compared his win on Yes Yes Yes in The Everest to his historic third successive Melbourne Cup on the legendary Makybe Diva.

The champion jockey hugged his wife, Sloane, manager Liam Prior and trainer Chris Waller before trying to put into words what an Everest meant to him.

“This is huge, what a feeling!” Boss said. “This takes me back to ‘05 (Makybe Diva’s 3rd Melbourne Cup). I feel electric. I don’t know what to say. This is just surreal, my body is on fire right now.’’

Boss, 50, only returned to Sydney racing in July after spending four years in Singapore and already has re-established himself among the nation’s leading jockeys.

The Hall of Fame hoop combined with trainer Chris Waller to win The Everest after the two men also joined forces to win the Group 1 Epsom Handicap with Kolding earlier this month.

“Thanks to Chris Waller for putting his faith in me,’’ Waller said.

“This is about Chris. This will mean a lot to him. He knows he has got a valuable, valuable colt here.”

Boss said he discussed riding tactics with Waller and the trainer supported him.

“I had a very good plan in my head about what I wanted to do,’’ Boss said. “Chris was in my corner about how I wanted to ride the horse which gave me confidence. I just wanted to be behind the grey horse (Classique Legend), somewhere around Nash (Rawiller), that was my plan.

“He was taking me everywhere I wanted to go. When I peeled out three and when I asked him, his turn of speed was of Group 1 quality only. Jeez he sprinted quickly. His sectionals will say that he did.’’

Boss said he was wary of the opposition and was concerned Yes Yes Yes got to the front too soon.

“I was wary of these great sprinters, you can’t give them too much of a start but his colt just flew,’’ he said.

“He is quality. I galloped him last week and he gave me goosebumps but today he has given me electric shocks. I couldn’t believe the turn of speed he showed.

“This beautiful colt right here. What are you worth now champion? To win an Everest — that was one hell of an experience.’’

HOW THE EVEREST WAS RUN

Matt Jones

Start: Sunlight got out best along with defending champion Redzel bouncing out well as usual while speedster Nature Strip was away evenly as he always is. Yes Yes Yes was one of the slowest away.

800m: Nature Strip is still out wide and not finding it easy to cross and lead as was expected with Sunlight and Redzel ensuring a good speed while Santa Ana Lane is back second last on the rail. Yes Yes Yes isn’t that far in front of him but conserving energy.

400m: Nature Strip has a two-length lead by this point and looks strong as Redzel chases him in second looking for a third Everest win. Arcadia Queen is poised to challenge as are many others while Pierata is stuck on the inside of runners.

200m: Yes Yes Yes has sprinted the best form the 400 to the 200m and is already is second placed with the leader Nature Strip starting to tire. Santa Ana Lane is finally in clear running but is giving the colt a three-length head start.

Finish: The three-year-old holds on to win by half a length from a fast-finishing Santa Ana Lane and Trekking who has run well above his odds. Pierata (5th) and Classique Legend (6th) had no luck in the straight.
