Shane Warne’s final hours: Suit shopping and vegemite on toast for lunch

Hours before his body was found in his hotel room, Shane Warne told of how he would spend his time in Thailand and ate an iconic Aussie meal.

In his final hours, Shane Warne laughed and chatted with a tailor and spoke of his excitement to be in Thailand.

Warne, 52, met with Parsuram Panday on Friday and told him how gruelling the cricket season had been in Australia and how he needed a break.

“He was buzzing with excitement. He said he was ready for a break because it had been a busy summer in Australia. He was looking forward to going out to the bars,” Mr Panday told The Sun.

He said Warne was “full of energy” and smiled and chatted with him when he came in to be fitted for a suit.

Just hours later, Warne was found unresponsive in his hotel room after suffering a suspected heart attack. Friends tried frantically to revive him, but he couldn’t be saved.

“I love cricket and Shane was a hero of mine. It was a great privilege to make his suits. He was due to collect his clothes on Saturday or Sunday so when I saw the news that he had died, I was shocked. I was devastated … I couldn’t believe that I was speaking with him just a few hours earlier.

“When he came into the shop he was so happy, strong and full of life and energy.

“He said, ‘Long time no see, Parsuram’ and laughed. He said, ‘It’s great to see you’ and he patted me on the back,” Mr Panday said.

The tailor is now considering auctioning Warne’s new suit for charity.

After leaving Mr Panday’s shop at midday, Warne lunched on Vegemite on toast with a friend who lives on the island – what would be the cricket legend’s final meal.

Tom Hall wrote: “An Australian through and through, this was to turn out to be his last meal.”

He then left for a massage between 2pm and 3pm before settling down to watch Australia take on Pakistan on the first day of a Test.
