The Queensland Reds have locked down one of the most exciting young outside backs in Australian rugby by re-signing 2024 Reds Rookie of the Year Tim Ryan.
Ryan has agreed to new terms to extend his development at Ballymore, with the pacy winger signing a two-season deal that will see him at the club through 2026.
Few players have made more of a mark in a Reds jersey at such a young age.
A St Patrick’s College old boy, 20-year-old Ryan scored a hattrick in his first Super Rugby Pacific match as a starter against the Blues after several cameos off the bench.
“The flashbacks to that game against the Blues are really good memories. The whole occasion on Anzac weekend with the special jersey really stands out,” Ryan said.
The elusive Ryan is eager to put in the work to keep making improvements to his game.
“I was pretty fresh when I first came into the Reds this season. I feel I gained a lot of confidence and improved my position-specific skills,” Ryan said.
“Things like my general vision in games, kicking, passing and a little more power are the type of things you want to keep working on.
“It’s very exciting to have my future at the Reds sorted and to know I’ve had a season under my belt heading towards a new year.”
A further hattrick against the Melbourne Rebels propelled the 2024 Reds Rookie of the Year to nine tries from nine appearances in Super Rugby Pacific.
The Queensland Reds have locked in an Anzac Day blockbuster against the Auckland-based Blues in the 2025 Super Rugby Pacific draw to be announced today at 11am.
The match against the Super Rugby Pacific champions is a bumper follow-up to this year’s successful clash against the same Kiwi side when the Reds wore a special Anzac jersey for the trans-Tasman blockbuster.
It was the game Ryan announced himself as a star in the making.
The clash drew more than 16,000 fans to witness an 11-try spectacle.
Next year’s April 25 date locks in a repeat Reds v Blues match. The staging of the match and its significance won strong approval from Reds coach Les Kiss and Blues counterpart Vern Potter.
Following the demise of the Melbourne Rebels, the 11 teams in action will still play 14 regular season games. The biggest change is moving to a six-team finals series rather than eight teams.
The Reds open the season at home on February 21 at Suncorp Stadium after being granted a round one bye because of their pre-season games in Europe against Bristol and Ulster.
