THE "Horan" and "Scott-Young" genes which once flowed strongly through Wallaby and Queensland triumphs in the 1990s are now coursing through a fresh generation.

Lock Angus Scott-Young and flyhalf Alex Horan, both 16, have pepped up Fathers' Day celebrations in their households with selection for the Queensland Under-16 rugby union side for the national championships in Sydney at the end of the month.

Scott-Young is already 1.93m and can look down on father Sam, the combative backrower who once incurred the wrath of the All Blacks by winking at the haka when facing them before a Test at Ballymore in 1992.

Churchie schoolboy Angus joked yesterday he was grateful to sense he had the balance of his mother Donna's genes in his make-up as well.

"I know dad had a big aggro streak. There's some of that in my game but I've also got mum's voice to play it cool," young Scott-Young said.

Two-time World Cup-winner Horan was honoured in Queensland Rugby's first Hall of Fame intake on Friday night.

He happily takes a back seat in his son's rugby, something he learnt from his own father Mike, the former State National Party leader, who played rugby league for Parramatta in the late 1960s.

"I collect the footballs at kicking practice," Horan said with a smile.

"I try to tell Alex what my English teacher told me: 'Do your schoolwork...you'll never make a living playing football'."

Horan isn't expecting anything special for Fathers' Day: "Dad will be cleaning the pool like normal."

The Horan and Scott-Young clans will be in opposition camps on Saturday when Churchie take on Gregory Terrace in a GPS First XV clash.
