MICHAEL Cheika’s judicial hearing into allegations of abusing a cameraman has been postponed by SANZAR until next week.
A release from SANZAR today said a request by Cheika’s lawyer for more time to prepare had been granted by judicial officer Nigel Hampton, and the new hearing would be held on Thursday, April 24.
Cheika is alleged to have confronted a SuperSport camera operator in Durban last month during an ill-tempered match against the Sharks.
SANZAR ordered the NSW coach to appear at a hearing via teleconference based on “SANZAR’s disciplinary rules”, but have steadfastly refused to reveal what sections of the code of conduct Cheika is accused of breaching.
“In granting the application Mr Hampton QC acknowledged SANZAR and its witnesses were ready to proceed with the hearing today but the primary consideration was to ensure Mr Cheika’s legal representative the proper opportunity to prepare the case,” the statement read.
“SANZAR is eager to have the matter heard as soon as possible but did not oppose the application.”
