Rugby star knocked out by crossbar in craziest injury ever

A rugby player has suffered a bizarre brutal injury when a crossbar landed on his head after he collided with the post.

The Sun reports the crazy incident occurred during a game between Mexico and Bermuda at the 2024 Rugby Americas North Sevens Tournament in Trinidad this week.

With the score level at 0-0, Mexico’s Diego Aguilar raced clear.

It initially appeared that Aguilar had the line at his mercy, only for an opposition player to get back to make a challenge.

The contact sent Aguilar crashing into the padded post. He managed to swivel and touch the ball down for a try.

Aguilar’s contact with the post appeared to dislodge the crossbar.

Moments after he touched the ball down, the crossbar fell and in a frightening turn of events, it struck Aguilar on the head.

Play was stopped for 10 minutes while Aguilar received medical attention.

The contest was then able to get back underway.

After the game, physiotherapist Dwain McGuinness posted the video, writing on X: “The craziest injury I’ve seen in all my years doing pitch-side physio.”

McGuinness then added a brutal snap of a stitched up wound on the top of Aguilar’s head.

Mexico went on to win the attritional affair 14-0.

The NRL Physio account posted: “Has to be the first time in history this has happened, hope the player is OK! Brutal.”

Rugby reporter Jamie Wall added: “Probably the most unlucky rugby injury you’ll ever see.”

Canada won the Sevens tournament, defeating Trinidad & Tobago 38-0 in the final.

Meanwhile, Australia’s women’s Rugby Sevens team bounced back from their heartbreaking Olympics exit by winning the Dubai Sevens — the first event of the new season.

Having lost the bronze medal match in Paris a few months ago, the Aussies claimed victory in Dubai for the fifth time in a row thanks to a late intercept try by Maddi Levi, who crossed for her record-breaking 15th try of the tournament.

Australia defeated New Zealand 28-24 in the final.
