DREW Mitchell will juggle a microphone and pull on his beloved NSW Waratahs jersey once again when he plays as a wildcard for the franchise at the Brisbane Global Tens next month.

The former Wallabies winger confirmed he would not only play for the Tahs but commentate on other games for Fox Sports during the February 9-10 event at Suncorp Stadium.

“I’m not sure how that’s all going to work out, I might be gasping for breath a bit,” Mitchell said.

“But I am really looking forward to pulling on that blue jersey again. It was always an honour to play for NSW.

“At the same time, I am well aware that those guys will be very close to preparations for the Super Rugby season and they would have high hopes for that season, so I just want to blend in, I don’t want to be a distraction for them.”

Since hanging up the boots last year, Mitchell has been forging a promising television career at Fox Sports and is signed up for the next two years as a pundit.

Each franchise playing in the Tens is allowed one wildcard player, usually a high-profile former star who can bring fans through the gates.

Last year the Tahs had Lote Tuqiri, while in this year’s event All Blacks legend Carlos Spencer will play for the Blues.

Mitchell, Australia’s top tryscorer in World Cups, cautioned against expectations that he’d be scoring long-range tries in the shortened-format games.

“I will be joining the boys in the next couple of weeks for training, I don’t want to embarrass myself or the jersey,” Mitchell said.

“But I don’t think you’ll be seeing too many length-of-the-field tries from me.”
