HARD-TOILING James Slipper is carving new ground for props as a two-time winner of the Pilecki Medal as the Reds Player of the Year.
Slipper last night repeated his 2012 effort with a commanding success based on the 3-2-1 votes of teammates across the Super Rugby season.
Slipper (239 votes) was a clear winner over backrower Jake Schatz (196) and prop Greg Holmes (192).
It was a popular win with Slipper’s role in the key tight-head pushover try against the ACT Brumbies a season highlight from a poor 13th-placed year. The top six vote-pullers were all forwards.
The Reds were also buoyed by major sponsor St George Bank announcing last night that a new three-year deal had been struck.
