Forgotten winger Filipo Daugunu has been recalled to the Queensland side for Saturday night’s Reds-Brumbies Super Rugby Pacific summit clash at Suncorp Stadium.
Wallaby Daugunu started for the Reds in their opening two games of the season but has failed to even make Queensland’s 23-man match day squad for the past four weeks.
However. he gets a chance this weekend due to a hand injury which has ruled out Jock Campbell.
“He’s going to bring that typical flair he’s got, but he’s been working on reducing a few mistakes and being a composed member of the backline,” Reds co-captain Liam Wright said of Daugunu, who will make bis 50th Super Rugby appearance in the top-of-the-table battle.
Flanker Wright also returns to the starting side, replacing the in-form Seru Uru, who has succumbed to an ankle injury.
There is also a third forced change to Queensland’s starting team, with prop Harry Hoopert replacing the suspended Dane Zander, who was sent off in the Reds’ last-start 32-20 home win over the Waratahs.
Towering lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto will make his return from an ankle injury via the bench.
The Brumbies are this weekend returning to Suncorp Stadium for the first time since their loss to the Reds in last year’s thrilling Super Rugby AU final.
“The AU final was an epic night and all the games we’ve had recently have been down to the wire,” Wright said.
Ryan Lonergan will again start at halfback for the Brumbies, with returning Wallaby Nic White having been named on the bench.
Flyhalf Noah Lolesio is missing for the second week in a row for the Brumbies due to an ankle injury.
