‘Party-hole’ type set up at the 12th of LIV Golf Adelaide has fans

The 12th hole of the LIV Golf Adelaide tournament is the place to be for fans who like to get a bit “rowdy” as they watch some of the best golfers in the world tee off.

Happy Gilmore-like scenes are taking place at the 12th hole of the LIV Golf tournament in Adelaide this weekend, where beer-chugging fans have taken the vibe to a whole new level.

Coined the ‘Watering Hole’ for a reason, the Grange Golf course’s party hole is surrounded by bars in a stadium-like design which has seen thousands of fans downing drinks and soaking up the atmosphere.

Local Claire Curyer said she did not know what to expect before going to the event but found out when she arrived at the 12th hole with her three sons and husband.

“We‘re probably a little bit on the outskirts because we do have kids and yeah, there’s lots of people around,” she said.

“I was a bit apprehensive about going to the golf as I was like, ‘Oh, I don‘t know if I’m going to go’, but obviously my husband’s into golf and he was like, ‘it’s not gonna great, it’s not gonna be what you think’, and it definitely isn’t.

“There‘s lots of energy around, it’s definitely a vibe and it’s definitely better than what I expected.”

Similar to the famous 16th Hole of the Phoenix Open in the US, where historically, thousands of fans have cheered on some of the greats of the PGA Tour by throwing empty drink cups onto the green, Adelaide’s own party-like zone has turned into a spectacle itself and given the LIV Golf tournament a “half and half” feel of a festival and a professional golf game.

On Friday after the last ball was hit, world-famous DJ Fisher kicked off the night festivities at the Fan Village with thousands packed in to watch him perform.

US golf legend Phil Mickelson, who’s playing in Adelaide, retweeted a video on Saturday praising both the PGA Tour and LIV golf.

“There will always be a demand for traditional golf,” he said

“(But) there is also demand for a new, different, energetic, fun, louder, exciting golf experience.

“See what’s possible, maybe it’s for you too.”

Saturday night at the Fan Village will see Birds of Tokyo perform on stage, with Sunday night having local electronic duo Electric Fields on stage to mark the end of the event.
