Paralympics Australia boss Catherine Clark quits weeks out from Games

Paralympics Australia has been left in shock after the organisation’s CEO walked out on her role weeks out from the Games.

Record funding for Olympic and Paralympic athletes

Paralympics Australia CEO Catherine Clark has resigned from her role, just one day after the team for Paris was launched.

Clark, who had been in the role for the past two-and-a-half years, dropped the bombshell right before her first Paralympic Games with no reason given.

The Herald Sun reported that although it was surprising news from the outside, on the inside, her fate may have been sealed.

“I don’t think it ended well,’’ sources close to PA told the masthead.

Clark had missed several functions recently, including a dinner where Prime Minister Anthony Albanese hosted former flag-bearers, as well as last week’s announcement of $283m federal government funding announcement for Olympic and Paralympic sports in the four-year cycle leading to Los Angeles 2028.

In her time in the role, Clark helped Paralympics Australia deliver a new strategic plan, its first Reconciliation Action Plan as well as advocating for funding equity.

Clark shared a statement posted by Paralympics Australia.

“It’s been a tremendous honour to be a part of the Australian Paralympic Movement,” Clark said.

“This really is an incredible community.

“I am immensely proud of our IMAGINE Strategic Plan, the progress we have made towards equity and in raising the profile of Para-sport.

“I want to express my sincere thanks to everyone for their support during my time at PA.

“The stage is well and truly set for Paris. The athletes and their support teams are ready. I hand over to them with complete confidence as they are poised to create their magic.”

Paralympics Australia’s head of commercial, communications and brand Cameron Murray has been appointed interim CEO.

Murray has more than 25 years of experience in senior roles in sports management and leadership, including World Cup and Commonwealth Games.
