His scratching caps a tumultuous week for the Titans where Hayne’s simmering feud with coach Neil Henry exploded, prompting club management to hold crisis meetings.
Hayne picked up an ankle injury in last week’s loss to the Dragons and did not train on the field during the week.
FUTURE: French rugby not on cards for Hayne
ULTIMATUM: Sack Henry of we will walk
He was spotted doing fitness training in the gym with injured teammate Konrad Hurrell on Tuesday and was battling to overcome the ankle problem on a short turnaround.
An ankle injury ruled Hayne out of a showdown with the Eels earlier this year and a separate problem is set to do the same again for the ANZ Stadium match.
The Eels clash could be Henry’s last in charge of the Titans as he faces the sack following the club’s late-season fade out.
