PAUL Gallen has declared his confidence in being fit to play in Cronulla’s biggest game in eight years at Allianz Stadium next Friday night.
After spending four days last week unable to walk due to a back injury, the Cronulla captain resumed light training this morning.
Gallen was forced to withdraw from the Sharks qualifying final victory over Canberra last Saturday after rupturing a disc in his back during a routine weights session last Tuesday.
The Sharks await the winner from tonight’s clash between North Queensland and Brisbane. It’s Cronulla’s first preliminary final since losing to Melbourne in 2008.
After working around the clock with rehabilitation and physiotherapy, Gallen has made significant improvement in his mobility.
“It’s coming along well, I’m much more positive today,’’ Gallen said.
“It was some of the worse pain I’ve ever had a couple of days after it happened, but thankfully it’s now beginning to respond to the physiotherapy I’ve undertaken.
“Had we had to play this weekend, I wouldn’t be able to play. But with the extra time until next Friday, I’m growing in confidence every day that I’ll be right to play.’’
