Souths-Manly player ratings: Who starred in controversial semi-final thriller?

The dust has settled on one of the wildest games of the season, but who starred, who struggled and who got the job done when it mattered most? Find out in our Souths-Manly player ratings.

Find out who starred and who came up short in South Sydney’s epic 34-26 win over Manly with The Daily Telegraph’s player ratings.

It was a crazy, back and forth match all the way through, with Souths beset by injuries and Manly giving up a late lead in what proved to be one of the games of the season.

SOUTH SYDNEY RABBITOHS

1. Adam Doueihi: Looked much more comfortable back at fullback and South Sydney’s most potent attacking weapon. Ran for 138 metres after just 57 minutes before replaced because of a HIA. 7.5

2 Alex Johnston: Back on the wing and made an instant impact scoring the opening try. Taken from the field midway through second half with HIA. 6.5

3 James Roberts: Struggled to get into the game again. Contributed to poor right defensive edge. 6

4 Dane Gagai: Had a horrid night marking up against Suli. Looked more dangerous when at fullback. 4

5 Campbell Graham: Made an enormous try-saving tackle but didn’t see much football. 6

6 Cody Walker: Had a hand in the opening try, scored the next. Sin-binned for slapping. 7

7 Adam Reynolds: First half 40/20. Shanked an easy penalty goal and two poor defensive reads led to Manly’s opening tries, threw an intercept but kicked well late. 5

8 Thomas Burgess: Strong opening stint running for 84 metres in 24 minutes. Helped turn the game again with his second outing. 8

9 Damien Cook: Set-up a crucial try in the final moment of the opening half. Always a threat. 8

10 Liam Knight : Error proved costly with Manly scoring the next set. Impressive after halftime. 7.5

11. John Sutton: Played a sweeping role to lay on the first try. Got manhandled by Suli. Scored a crucial try. There’s still some life in the old boy. 7

12. Sam Burgess: Covered ground to save a certain try to Parker. Was going to play 80 minutes before coming from the field late because of a HIA. No judiciary worries. 8

13. Cameron Murray: Nicely linked up with Walker to lay on the second try, scored two key tries. 8.5

14. George Burgess: Came on after halftime, lasting just 11 minutes and struggled to make any impact. 2

15. Mark Nicholls: Usual tradesman-like effort by the prop. Did his job. 6

16. Tevita Tatola: Played huge minutes despite starting off the interchange bench. Helped peg the game back. 7

17. Ethan Lowe: Came on in midway through the second half but was forced out to the centres in a shuffle. Little impact. 5

MANLY SEA EAGLES

1. Brendan Elliot: Has the biggest shoes in the team to fill was solid until his collision with Taufua. 6

2. Jorge Taufua: Put on two of his trademark big hits both on Ethan Lowe but made a terrible error with Elliott. 6

3. Brad Parker: Good hole run to score Manly’s opening try. Sin-binned for tripping James Roberts. 7

4. Moses Suli: Poor defensive read in the lead-up to South Sydney’s opening try. Bounced back with two fearsome solo efforts to lay on a try and score another. 9

5. Reuben Garrick: Threw last pass for Cherry-Evans try. Another solid performance. 7

6. Dylan Walker: Dangerous against his former club. Produced two try assist and three linebreaks. 8

7. Daly Cherry-Evans: On report for a crusher tackle, scored a try, kicked a 40/20 and laid on a try. 8.5

8. Addin Fonua-Blake: First stint was good, second stint was outstanding. 7.5

9. Apisai Koroisau: Looked sharp in what was his farewell match for the Sea Eagles. 7

10. Martin Taupau: Late off-load laid the opening line break and his next one almost created a try. 7

11. Corey Waddell: Scored his first career try with some nice footwork. Performed strongly. 7

12. Jack Gosiewski: Gave away a costly penalty with ill-discipline, scored a try. High workrate. 7

13. Jake Trbojevic: The most unlikely of villains. Sin-binned at a pivotal time but was again a star performer. 7

14. Manase Fainu: Tried to lift the tempo again but didn’t get as much space as he would’ve liked 5.

15. Haumole Olakauatu: The rookie came on with just five minutes to spare. 2

16. Sean Keppie: Played half an hour. Rookie was again solid. 5

17. Lloyd Perrett: Played just 11 minutes off the interchange bench. Hard to get into the game. 2
