SOUTHS have been dealt a blow with strike centre Aaron Gray now facing a longer stint on the sidelines due to the knee injury he suffered at the Auckland Nines.
Gray, was injured on day one of the Nines in a loss to Canberra, is booked in for further scans this week and the club expects them to confirm he will be out of action longer than the two months originally diagnosed.

TEAM LISTS: This weekend’s pre-season matches
With Gray sidelined, several youngsters will get their first chance to press for his centre spot, including new recruits Rob Jennings and Braidon Burns.
The former Panthers young guns have been named to play Manly in Saturday night’s trial at Campbelltown Sports Stadium, with coach Michael Maguire keen to cash in on their raw speed.
The 21-year-old Jennings and Burns 20, are frontrunners to feature in Souths’ NRL opener against the Wests Tigers
Former Parramatta Holden Cup centre Tyrell Fuimaono, as well as Siosifa Talakai, who played three NRL games last season, are also in the hunt for Gray’s jersey.
“We don’t know how long Aaron will be out, but he’s a real pro and he’ll get back as quickly as he can,’’ Maguire said.
“We have some good options out wide. Rob is quick, has a big frame, Braidon is quick, so it helps to have some young talent with speed, and we’ll be looking to use that.
“Bryson Goodwin can also play in the centres, which allows us to play a guy like Braidon on the wing, while Rob has also trained on the wing.’’
George Burgess will also step out for Souths, while his big brother Sam will be one of the big names to feature in Sunday week’s Charity Shield against St George Illawarra.
