FORGET the Liberal leadership spill — it’s Greg Inglis that has caused Canberra the most pain in recent seasons. And in perfect timing for Souths, GI will return from injury this weekend.

FORGET the Liberal party leadership spill — it’s Greg Inglis that has caused Canberra the most pain in recent seasons.

Inglis holds the NRL’s try-scoring record against the Raiders with an impressive 18 tries in as many appearances.

The formidable strike rate places ‘GI’ ahead of stars like Billy Slater, Anthony Minichiello and Terry Lamb.

In perfect timing for Souths, Inglis will return from his broken thumb against the Raiders in Canberra on Saturday.

‘GI’ hasn’t played for seven weeks, but his try scoring record in the nation’s capital will send shivers down the Raiders’ spines.

Rabbitohs coach Anthony Seibold says Inglis is rested, strong and ready to ignite the red and green’s premiership campaign.

“Greg has kept himself really busy and he is looking forward to the Raiders,” Seibold said.

“He has really dived into becoming better physically and has worked hard with our performance staff.

“Greg is in really good condition.

“He has hit the ground running at training this week and we are looking forward to welcoming back our captain.

“Greg has been out for six or seven games now, so to have him back on the park is a big in for us.”

Seibold admitted Inglis could have returned from his broken thumb earlier, but the club didn’t want to risk further injury.

“It was a decision made by our surgeon,” he said.

“We all would have loved Greg back in the team a few weeks ago against the Roosters and the Broncos, but the surgeon said he needed another week.

“Greg’s health and wellbeing, in regards to his recovery is a priority for us.”

Inglis was sorely missed on the field for Souths but he still had a strong impact on the team.

Seibold invited ‘GI’ to spend time in the coach’s box to see the game from a different perspective.

“We had Greg in a specific role watching how the opposition team were attacking,” he said.

“We also had him looking at our back five and it was like having another coach.

“At halftime he got around to some of the guys, particularly those playing at fullback and in the outside backs.

“Greg played a valuable role for us and I think he would be great as a positional coach.”

Souths have slumped to third position following consecutive losses but Seibold isn’t concerned heading into Saturday’s clash against Canberra.

“It didn’t hurt our confidence whatsoever,” he said.

“It has been a good opportunity for some of our younger guys to learn some valuable lessons.

“Now we have the chance to finish the season strongly.”
