Talented former New Zealand Test hooker Danny Levi could be on the move in a bid to reignite his NRL career.

The Daily Telegraph has been told Wests Tigers and Parramatta have showed preliminary interest in the 22-year-old Newcastle Knights dummy-half, who once was talked up as the next Issac Luke.

The headstrong Levi has fallen out of favour at the Knights following of a personality clash with head coach Nathan Brown.

As a result, Newcastle are looking to bring in St George Illawarra utility Kurt Mann next season to start at hooker ahead of Levi following another knee reconstruction for first-choice rake Slade Griffin.

It is understood Levi is free to find another club and the wheels are in motion.

A former Newcastle under-20s captain, Levi swept all before him after exploding into the top grade in 2015.

Just when it seemed Levi’s career was ready to take off after he played Test football for the Kiwis, Brown dumped him to the Newcastle Cup.

More alarming for Levi is that the Knights are chasing Mann, who has very little experience at dummy half.

Mann will return to Dragons training this week and a possible switch to Newcastle will depend on whether Saints pick up an outside back in the coming weeks.

The Dragons are said to have cooled on taking on Jarryd Hayne.

And despite speculation to the contrary, it is understood South Sydney’s Alex Johnston is not in their sights, either.

But the Dragons are still on the lookout for a winger/fullback. If they find one, Mann will be given the green light to leave.

Levi could be a good pick-up for the Eels, or especially the Tigers given there is talk the Bulldogs are chasing young gun Jacob Liddle.

The Tigers have also shown interest in Damien Cook but the Australian No.9 is in negotiations to extend his deal with South Sydney.
