NSW forward Tariq Sims believes he and brother Korbin can “achieve some pretty amazing things” at St George Illawarra next season.
The brothers have been reunited at the Dragons after previous stints together in the under-20s at Brisbane and then Newcastle in the NRL.
“He has fitted in really well,” Tariq said. “I get to run around with him again at the Dragons, they are exciting times.
“It’s a long time between now and the season. But if he applies himself well and (has a) competitive spirit and does what ‘Mary’ (coach Paul McGregor) tells him to do, it will not only be exciting times for him, and the goals he wants to achieve, but as a team and squad.
“We want to make it to the big dance at the end of the year and Korbin could play a huge role in achieving that goal.
“I cherish every moment (playing alongside him). Being the older brother of Korbin, I hope I can get the best out of him along with ‘Mary’ and the coaching staff.
“There is always a sibling rivalry that simmers just underneath the skin.
“Hopefully we can push each other’s buttons in the right directions and achieve some pretty amazing things.
“Korbin is only scratching the surface with what he can achieve in his career.
“The coaching staff here demands perfection off every player. You need pre-seasons to really focus your energy and work out what you want to achieve throughout the year.
“It’s a nervous energy but I love it.”
Unfortunately, Korbin will start next season under suspension, but said: “It will be good to line up with Tariq rather than against him.”
Tariq has returned to training after overcoming a knee injury.
“It’s my second day back training on it and it has responded really well,” Tariq said. “I’ll be there in round one if I’m picked in the team.”
