Cowboys
Don't miss out on the headlines from Cowboys. Followed categories will be added to My News.
THE Brisbane Broncos are showing an interest in Cowboys coach Paul Green, who comes off contract at the end of next season.
Veteran Wayne Bennett is under contract for another two seasons but Green is seen by club powerbrokers as a long-term Broncos coach.
Obviously the Cowboys will do everything possible to keep Green in Townsville.
They will need to pay up towards $1 million a season to retain him.
If Green decides to extend for only one season you can guarantee he’ll be at the Broncos from 2019.

SIGN BARRETT LONG TERM
THERE is a very important meeting at Manly on Monday between coach Trent Barrett and the club’s chairman and owner Scott Penn.
For weeks we have heard rumours of Barrett being offered to the Canterbury Bulldogs and the Gold Coast Titans by his ‘consultant’ Wayne Beavis.
Barrett still has a year to run on his contract but did such an outstanding job with the Sea Eagles this year that Penn would be well advised to lock him up long term. Surely if Anthony Griffin can get a long term deal at Penrith, Barrett is entitled to one at Manly.
ANGE’S SOCCEROOS LACK PASSION
THE credibility of Australian soccer goes on the line on Tuesday night at ANZ Stadium.
Nothing but a big victory over Syria will restore any confidence for the remainder of our World Cup campaign.
I have been saying for 12 months there is a problem between coach Ange Postecoglou and senior players. Their form and body language almost confirms this.
Unbelievably, Syria looked the much hungrier team in the second-half last week in Malaysia.
That the Socceroos could be out-enthused in a desperation World Cup qualifier is unheard of.
Somehow the coach needs to find a way to restore some pride into the jersey.
