Buy, Hold, Sell: NRL SuperCoach Round 4, 2018

FORMER champion Dave Von Kotze reveals his 10 best point of difference players to target ahead of round four of SuperCoach NRL — presented by hipages.

1) Gareth Widdop ($749,200/ 9.3 per cent ownership)

Despite the never before seen price tag of nearly $750,000, the red-hot Widdop could still have much more to offer to potential owners who pay top dollar for him.

For those that have been living under a rock for the past three weeks, the Dragons’ playmaker has scored a try and notched nine try assists to sit with a monstrous opening three-game average of 114.

Widdop was the first player to join the $700,000 club this week and amazingly, due to a breakeven of 3, with a score of 80 against the Knights this week he should come with a price tag in excess of $800,000 next week.

As if this isn’t enough he will return to ‘Fortress Kogarah’ to take on the Rabbitohs in round five so this run could be something truly epic.

2) Roger Tuivasa-Sheck ($612,300/ 5.8 per cent ownership)

Tuivasa-Sheck’s ownership nearly doubled prior to round three and an opening three-game average of 92 has him comfortably leading the battle of the fullbacks.

RTS has posted a host of high scoring stats including a try, four try assists, four line breaks, four line break assists and nine offloads to sit 48 points ahead of nearest FLB rival Kalyn Ponga and 66 points behind Tom Trbojevic.

With a breakeven of -15, surely ‘Rockin Roger’ has plenty more in the tank for owners when he returns to Allianz Stadium to take on his old club.

Luke Keary has roared into POD contention after missing round one through injury.

3) Luke Keary ($521,400/ 2.1 per cent ownership)

There is no questioning the fact the Roosters have been a much better side over the past two rounds with the return of Keary.

Since returning he has knocked out opening scores of 72 and 97 and sent a message loud and clear to SuperCoaches that he could be one hell of a smokey to do some damage as a POD with extremely low ownership.

Over the past two weeks he has combined perfectly with Cooper Cronk to rack up high-scoring attacking stats including two tries, four try assists, a line break and four line break assists.

He will play two of his next three games at home against the Warriors and Bunnies and takes the field this round with a breakeven of -2.

4) Elliott Whitehead ($540,100/ 3.4 per cent ownership)

Four tries in three games has seen Elliott average 78 and reward his owners handsomely for taking the punt on him.

However, history tells us that consistency has been an issue for Whitehead in the past so owners may choose to milk him for a few more weeks until the tries dry up and then upgrade him to a gun.

He currently has a breakeven of 5 and if he can maintain this profitable start with two

more scores of 65 against Manly and the Bulldogs, his value will climb over the $600,000 mark.

Tohu Harris has fit in well on the Warriors’ right edge outside Shaun Johnson.

5) Tohu Harris ($552,500/ 6.3 per cent ownership)

Unlike the above mentioned Whitehead, the similarly priced Harris has shown that he offers more value as a long term prospect in the 2RF.

Harris is scoring his points with virtually the exact economical PPM of 0.9 as he has the past two years and it appears highly likely that he will hold down eighty-minutes each week on the right edge which is promising news for potential owners.

He has started the season with three consistent scores of 68, 71 and 74 and after this weekend’s game against the Roosters, he will play five of his next six games at home.

6) Coen Hess ($564,800/ 7.3 per cent ownership)

In similar fashion to last season, Hess has had a strong start to the season and is currently the highest scoring FRF option with a three-game average of 77.

Hess played around 55 minutes per game for the first two rounds but has created some interest after playing the full-eighty on the edge and grabbing a double on the way to 114 points against the Storm last weekend.

Whilst this was exciting to watch if we look at his past stats, SuperCoach Gold shows us that he had a mixed bag of results when playing over 75 minutes in 2017.

Hess played these big minutes on eight occasions last year for an average of 57 which was made up of two high scores of 109 and 86 but also six scores 51 or below.

Coen Hess is an option if he continues to play big minutes for the Cowboys.

7) Marty Taupau ($583,700/ 8.2 per cent ownership)

Even though there is not a great deal of action so far in the FRF position this season, Taupau continues to be a PPM monster as he tries to reel in Coen Hess as the highest scoring FRF. Taupau is currently averaging four offloads a game and has scored his points for the first three games with incredible PPM stats of 1.6, 1.7 and 1.0.

Unfortunately he has not played more than 50 minutes so far this year but potential owners need know that he relishes the opportunity to take on the big boppers from Canberra and last season he posted two scores of 113 and 72 against them.

One for the watch list and if potential owners see there is a consistent increase in minutes to between 55-60 minutes, he will be very hard to ignore.

Moses Mbye has been electric for the Dogs at fullback.

8) Moses Mbye ($446,000/ 5 per cent ownership)

Many scorned SuperCoaches may refuse to have anything more to do with the name Moses this year while others may put this in the ‘chasing last week’s points’ basket, however, Mbye has posted a few handy stats since playing fullback this year and his recent 115 could see him be a stepping stone to a gun HFB or FLB over the next few weeks.

Apart from adding points each week from goal kicking, Moses Mbye has scored two tries, made four line breaks and busted 20 tackles on the way to his three-game average of 69. Consistency is definitely an issue with scores of 38, 55 and 115 but if he can score 55 against the Bunnies this weekend, he will make $60,000 and still start with a negative breakeven for his round five match-up against the Raiders.

Cameron Murray has peaked interest since starting for the Rabbitohs.

9) Cameron Murray ($413,500/ 3.1 per cent ownership)

Murray’s 22 points in 28 minutes during round one has seen him only increase in value marginally by $20,000 this week.

Non-owners who are interested in this trade will need to make a move this week due to his low breakeven of 3 and a recent two-game average of 65 points and 61 minutes could see Murray’s ownership percentage increase over the next few rounds.

10) Anthony Milford ($566,300/ 6.4 per cent ownership)

The little wizard of Suncorp returns to Brisbane this weekend against the Titans who have conceded 18 tries in three games and owners of Milford will be hoping for a triple-figured special from their dangerous five-eighth.

He comes with a $55,000 discount from his starting price and has lovely career averages against his next two opponents the Titans (78 avg) and Knights (89 avg).
