NRL SuperCoach winners and losers from Sunday action, Zac Hosking dislocated shoulder

A SuperCoach star faces a long stint on the sidelines after copping a serious injury against the Titans, but a number of top cheapies produced the goods.

It was a mixed bag for SuperCoaches on Sunday with a number of top cheapies performing but popular star Zac Hosking dislocating his shoulder.

WINNERS

* Ethan Strange 73 - Another very solid showing from the most popular player in SuperCoach. While on paper Jamal Fogarty is the matchwinner with his late field goal, Strange set it up by backing himself and making the decisive linebreak. Looking very bit a future superstar of the game.

* James Schiller 65 - Notched a double as the most purchased player this week. Almost 60,00 SuperCoaches are very happy right now - and over $150,000 richer.

* Chevy Stewart 30 - Didn’t show the brilliance we’ve seen in lower grades but 30 in base is enough to prove he’ll likely be the most popular buy in two weeks’ time.

* Zac Lomax 83 - Just keeps getting it done. Scored a try, contributed to another and kicked four goals.

* Morgan Smithies 62 - Plenty sold after Smithies dropped in minutes a few weeks back but he played the full 90 minutes here in a base stat whopper.

* Beau Fermor 65 - Those who got on early will be very pleased with this base-laden performance, which included 53 tackles.

* Apisai Koroisau 59 - Produced a brilliant no-look pass for a try assist and notched 37 tackles.

* Xavier Savage 40 - There was a time not so long ago when Savage was criticised for his lack of base stats. Well, he ran the ball 22 times against the Titans and locked in a price rise of around $50,000 with more to come.

LOSERS

* Zac Hosking 27 - Went off with a dislocated shoulder and is set to be out long-term. Sell.

* Jayden Campbell 30 - Failed to finish due to a knee injury he took into the game.

* David Fifita 55 - Decent showing but the fact he was again demoted to the bench is a worry. Should drop $50K or so and be a juicy pick over the next few weeks once he builds match fitness.

FULL-TIME: FOGARTY THE HERO IN GOLDEN POINT

Well that was an absolute thriller!

Jamal Fogarty was the iceman, kicking the field goal in golden point and getting the win for Canberra.

But realistically, the Titans shouldn’t have been it it at all – they came from nowhere to force it to extra time.

Alofiana Khan-Pereira scored two tries in the final four minutes of regular time after the Titans looked gone for all money when trialing 20-10 with the full-time whistle looming.

Brian Kelly even nailed a conversion from the sideline - his first ever conversion in the NRL - to take it to extra time.

68 MINUTES: SCHILLER NOTCHES DOUBLE

Our buy of the round produces yet again!

James Schiller came into this week as the most popular buy and has now notched a double.

With a score edging to wards the 60 mark, we are set for a $150K price rise so start counting those fat stacks.

50 MINUTES: HOSKING DISLOCATES SHOULDER

Zac Hosking is in the wars.

After being rocked by a concussion in the first half, he managed to return but copped a dislocated shoulder almost immediately after coming back on.

Hosking is still a popular SuperCoach player after starting the season red-hot, averaging a brilliant 71 for the season.

The Titans have got themselves back in it and trail 14-10.

HALF-TIME: SUPERCOACH STUDS PRODUCE THE GOODS

It’s mostly good news for SuperCoach-relevant players.

Popular stars are notching good totals across the board – Ethan Strange (41 points including a try assist), James Schiller (33 points including a try) and Morgan Smithies (36 points including 20 tackles).

Notably though, David Fifita, who Sangster’s Paradise were targeting as a buy next week is only on 17 points after being demoted to the bench.

17 MINUTES: TOP CHEAPIE REWARDS SUPERCOACHES

Hear that? It’s the sound of almost 60,000 SuperCoaches cheering.

The most popular buy of the round, James Schiller, has crossed for the first try against the Titans and SuperCoaches are already counting the cash.

Schiller is predicted to make almost $150,000 in one week and he basically just needs to stay on the field to lock that price rise in.

FULL-TIME: LOMAX LEADS THE WAY

The Dragons have won 24-12 and Zac Lomax was the SuperCoach star.

The wantaway was in everything in notching 83 SuperCoach points.

63 MINUTES: DID KLEMMER GET OFF LIGHTLY FOR RAMPAGE?

David Klemmer has been reported twice in a few minutes but has he got off lightly?

“He would have got five weeks for that at Magic Round a few years ago,” said Michael Ennis after Klemmer escaped with just a report for a huge hit on Kyle Flanagan.

Andrew Voss added: “If Flanagan stays down concussed, what happens?”

Klemmer then hit Zac Lomax high a few moments later and a melee ensued.

The Dragons are leading 24-12 and will win comfortably.

FIFITA BENCHED IN TITANS SHAKE-UP

Late Mail is in for Raiders v Titans and popular SuperCoach target David Fifita has been benched!

He was on my radar for next week but maybe not now.

Having said that, he’s produced huge SuperCoach scores from the bench in the past.

And as we revealed on Saturday, Tanah Boyd has been axed by the Titans. Kieran Foran moves to halfback, AJ Brimson to five-eighth, Harley Smith-Shields to centre and Alofiana Khan-Pereira onto the wing.

Ethan Strange will play for the Raiders despite rumours he wouldn’t (more below).

The Raiders are 1-17 with Kaeo Weekes 18th man.

HALF-TIME: ROW OVER BIRD HIA

It’s 16-6 to the Dragons and Jack Bird has been ruled out of the game with a category 1 concussion.

It could be a big talking point going forward.

“The Dragons were not happy with that ruling,” said sideline eye Jake Duke.

It’s certainly unusual for a player to be ruled out when their head hits the ground, as apposed to a head clash or other types of contact, so we wait to see how this unfolds.

36th MINUTE: LOMAX REWADS SUPERCOACHES

Zac Lomax is on fire here, setting up a try after scoring one himself early in the game.

Lomax rose to take a bomb and then offloaded to Kyle Flanagan for the try.

He’s on 54 SuperCoach points with halftime looming.

“He’s been the best player on the field,” said Braith Anasta.

14th MINUTE: KOROISAU’S NO-LOOK STUNNER

Tigers coach Benji Marshall was famous for his no-look passes but one of his own players may have bettered him.

Api Koroisau completely fooled the defence from dummy half to send Stefano Utoikamanu over with a stunning piece of deception.

“I’m still fooled on the fifth replay,” said Vossy.

Then in rather comical scenes, Koroisau went on to miss the goal from almost in front.

1ST MINUTE: GOLDEN LOMAX SCORES OPENER

“Just about everything he touches turns to gold ... short of signing a new contract.”

Andrew Voss sums it up perfectly in commentary as Zac Lomax opens the scoring.

The Dragons lead 4-nil.

Interestingly, Lomax is playing wing and Tyrell Sloan, who set up the try with electric speed, at fullback.

This reverses coach Shane Flanagan’s change from last week.

TWO HOURS TO KICK-OFF

SuperCoaches can breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Recent rumours circulating on SuperCoach forums suggested Ethan Strange, the most popular player in SuperCoach at 65 per cent ownership, had been ruled out of tonight’s clash against the Titans.

The rumours gathered legs when Kaeo Weekes, also a five-eighth, was withdrawn from NSW Cup.

However, the Raiders are unchanged with Weekes merely withdrawn to fulfil NRL 18th man duties.

The Dragons have lost star recruit Luciano Leilua to a calf injury.

Raymond Faitala-Mariner starts in his place with Ben Murdoch-Masila coming onto the bench.

EARLIER ... LIKELY SUNDAY SUPERCOACH WINNERS AND LOSERS

* James Schiller CTW $238,900 - Our cheapie of the week has been confirmed. The Canberra revelation wins selection for at least another week with Albert Hopoate (burns) out for another round. SuperCoach Plus predicts Schiller will earn almost $150,000 this week so he’s worth a crack even as a one-week play. But it may be much more than that. Schiller has been sensational in his two games this year and may well hold the spot ahead of Hopoate going forward. In that case, SuperCoach Plus predicts Schiller’s gains to eclipse the $250K mark.

* Chevy Stewart FLB/CTW $204,300 – Set to be the most popular buy in SuperCoach in a fortnight. The young gun has been named to debut at fullback for the Raiders and has more than enough time for price rises given Jordan Rapana (knee) is out for 6-8 weeks.

* Samuela Fainu 2RF/FRF $334,700 - Won dual position status on Monday but misses out this week due to concussion. There’s plenty more cash to be made here, even after last week’s injury-affected score.
