SuperCoach NRL: 20 Winners/Losers from Raiders vs Bulldogs, Sea Eagles vs Broncos at Magic Round

The opening of Magic Round had it all with sin bins, fiery clashes and a field goal in the dying minutes. See who the 20 SuperCoach Winners and Losers were from an enthralling Friday night.

SuperCoach NRL: Buy, Hold, Sell Round 11

Magic Round is off and running with a great double-header to commence proceedings.

We had it all in the first game with the Raiders overcoming playing with 11 men at one stage to deny the Bulldogs in the opener.

Then it was Jock Madden who slotted the field goal to win it for the Broncos in a dramatic game that had Michael Maguire in all sorts after Payne Haas went off limping, only to return to finish the game.

Here are the SuperCoach Winners and Losers from Magic Round’s Friday Night Footy.

SUPERCOACH WINNERS

1. Hudson Young (104 pts) – Two tries will lead to a monster score, but solid base stats helped him to crack the century.

2. Stephen Crichton (96 pts) – Got plenty of early ball and that was a coup for owners, with a try, try assists and two line break assists leading to a big score.

3. Reuben Garrick (98 pts) – Continues to get the job done on the wing, with a try helping him to fall just shy of three figures.

4. Haumole Olakau’atu (86 pts) – A workhorse who is a focal point of Manly’s attack and looks destined for his first NSW jersey.

5. Jacob Kiraz (90 pts) – His workrate is phenomenal, finishing with almost 240 running metres, and he scored a well-deserved try in the second half.

6. Ethan Strange (73 pts) – Came up with a superb second half and his two try assists to Hudson Young were huge.

7. Selwyn Cobbo (75 pts) – Got the call up to play fullback and didn’t disappoint. Had a number of half breaks that could’ve turned into tries.

8. Josiah Karapani (63 pts) – While he found it tough defensively at times, he ran for over 170m to smash his breakeven.

9. Kaeo Weekes (71 pts) – Owners are set for another price rise as Weekes continues to deliver. Job security and good performances will make him a popular buy.

10. Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega (80 pts) – Played just his second game of the season and put up some big numbers to reward those that stuck with him.

SUPERCOACH LOSERS

1. Matthew Lodge (9 pts) – Was given just the 13 minutes and struggled to make much happen during that time.

2. Luke Brooks (16 pts) – A forgettable night for Brooks from a SuperCoach perspective with his lowest score of the season.

3. Josh Addo-Carr (25 pts) – Had plenty of half chances and looked dangerous, but in a blow for owners he wasn’t able to convert any of those.

4. Ethan Bullemor (20 pts) – His minutes took a hit with the return of Olakau’atu and so did his SuperCoach score.

5. Blake Mozer (11 pts) – Played 30 minutes but his output was kept purely to defence with not one run during that time.

6. Tom Starling (24 pts) – Was given a decent run of it (32 minutes), but could only come away with a modest score.

7. Viliame Kikau (33 pts) – Went off briefly after copping a nasty hip drop, but for the second-straight week was well held by the defence.

8. Ata Mariota (12 pts) – Has been a big price riser this SC season, but was only able to come away with 12 points in his 23 minutes of time on the field.

9. Connor Tracey (33 pts) – A few mistakes proved costly for Tracey and there is the temptation for Blake Taaffe to get another shot at the jersey.

10. Ezra Mam (37 pts) – Didn’t play bad by any stretch but a defensive-oriented match didn’t allow his attacking flair to come out.

SEA EAGLES VS BRONCOS

FULL-TIME - Broncos 13-12

Payne Haas has risen like The Undertaker.

He’s back on the field and the word from the sideline is that he suffered a big toe injury and played out the last five minutes through the pain.

They get a penalty close to halfway and Jock Madden slots the field goal to give them the lead.

73rd minute - 12-all

Game on.

Debutant Josiah Karapani has been targetted in defence and it pays dividends with a backline shift allowing Raymond Tuaimalo Vaega to touch down in the corner.

Garrick slots the convresion from near the sideline to tie it up.

70th minute - Broncos 12-6

The injury news on Payne Haas has really put a dampener on this contest.

Just as Reuben Garrick looked like he could’ve tied things up with a huge burst down the sideline, he kicks inside instead of taking the tackle on second or passing inside to Daly Cherry-Evans.

He really let the Broncos off the hook there.

60th minute - Broncos 12-6

Brisbane is starting to get back into the groove and is looking dangerous.

But huge news, Payne Haas comes limping off the field and looked in a bad way.

He couldn’t put any weight on his left leg.

That is a cruel blow for him, the Broncos and the NSW Blues.

50th minute - Broncos 12-6

Manly receives a controversial penalty for a late tackle, but a forward pass ended any hopes of their first try of the night.

The Sea Eagles have really dominated the territory in this game, but still have nothing to show for it yet.

But as the clock strikes 50 minutes, popular SC player Reuben Garrick has Manly’s first after what appeared to be a forward pass from Haumole Olakau’atu put him through a big gap.

Pat Carrigan is up to 39 SuperCoach points for the night.

HALFTIME - Broncos 12-0

A hot start has lifted Brisbane to a solid lead at the break.

They’re not home by any stretch though as errors started to creep into their game towards the back-end of the half.

Manly needs things to stick deep in Broncos territory though. They’ve had enough good ball to be at least level, but just can’t finish.

30th minute - Broncos 12-0

Manly has settled after a poor period early in the game, and have created some pressure of their own.

They need to put some scoreboard pressure on the Broncos however, because they’re looking comfortable at the moment.

Selwyn Cobbo has risen to 41 SC points in a strong showing so far.

20th minute - Broncos 12-0

Selwyn Cobbo makes a huge break after regathering a kick, and a brain explosion from Taniela Paseka sees him sent to the sin bin.

He deliberately tackled Kotoni Staggs in an offside position and was correctly marched.

Ezra Mam keeps the ball in two hands and throws a lovely cutout to put Deine Mariner over with ease.

The Broncos are up and about, and Brendan Piakura is already up to 42 SuperCoach points.

10th minute - Broncos 6-0

An unhappy beginning for Tolutau Koula after dropping a bomb at the back and the Broncos score right off the back of it.

Brendan Piakura runs a beautiful line and Jock Madden puts it on a dime to see the second rower split Daly Cherry-Evans and Reuben Garrick to score first.

That was a beautiful play.

8.05PM: It’s a quick turnaround and we are off for Manly and Brisbane, with the Broncos the ‘away’ team tonight.

Selwyn Cobbo comes into fullback with Reece Walsh out and Josiah Karapani is the new centre for Brisbane making his NRL debut.

RAIDERS VS BULLDOGS

FULL-TIME - Raiders 24-20

Elliott Whitehead stays down for a penalty that helped to seal the win. It’s a shame that the game is coming to that.

Anyways, Canberra deserved the win after fighting hard in the second half to overcome an eight-point deficit.

73rd minute - Raiders 24-20

This is edge of your seat stuff.

There’s just seven minutes to play and the Bulldogs need to pull something out of the hat fast if they are to come away from Magic Round with the two points.

65th minute - Raiders 24-20

Kaeo Weekes helped the Raiders get on the front foot with a huge burst, and it was Ethan Strange and Hudson Young who finished it off.

For the second-straight time, a Strange assist puts Young over for a double and Canberra has the lead once again.

60th minute - Bulldogs 20-18

Ethan Strange has the Raiders right back in the contest.

He dragged Drew Hutchison in and put Hudson Young through a gaping hole to get Canberra back to within two points.

They needed that after an extremely tough period

50th minute - Bulldogs 20-12

Viliame Kikau started the second half on the bench after that ugly hip drop tackle.

The Bulldogs now have four tries in the space of 11 minutes after a nice tap-on from Stephen Crichton finds Jacob Kiraz for the easiest of tries.

The game is getting away from the Raiders, but at least they’re back to 13 men on the field as the look to reel in the Bulldogs.

In a boost for Canterbury, Kikau is back on the field.

HALFTIME - Bulldogs 14-12

Matt Burton and Josh Addo-Carr link beautifully and the Foxx chips ahead, but is wiped out by Jordan Rapana who receives 10 in the bin.

They capitalise with a try in the very next set to Stephen Crichton to really make them pay.

Viliame Kikau found himself on the wrong end of a hip drop from Josh Papali’i, and he will spend time in the sin bin as well, meaning they’ll be with 11 players for the first portion of the second half.

But before the siren sounds, Matt Burton scores with the final play of the half after touching down a Drew Hutchison grubber.

30th minute - Raiders 12-6

Canterbury haven’t played nearly as bad as the score suggests, but errors are just killing them at crucial times.

Connor Tracey waited and waited to draw Jordan Rapana after being put into a gap, but instead of backing his speed he wears a huge shot and spills the ball.

That’s his second dropped ball at a key period.

But the Raiders slip up this time, with Rapana opting to kick the loose ball and instead collected a teammate, allowing Jacob Preston to score.

20th minute - Raiders 12-0

We almost saw the first piece of magic.

Josh Addo-Carr tiptoed the sideline after a flick pass from Bronson Xerri, but unfortunately for Bulldogs fans he collected white paint on his way to the tryline.

The surface is looking like eight games of NRL could be a stretch, but both teams are throwing the ball around.

Max King has 21 points in a great start, only behind Xavier Savage who’s score is boosted from the try.

Jacob Kiraz has fumbled possession and it falls to Sebastian Kris. All 12 of Canberra’s points have come off the back of Bulldogs errors.

10th minute - Raiders 6-0

Connor Tracey is looking to pull a magic trick of his own and disappear.

He spills a Kaeo Weekes bomb and it falls right into the waiting arms of Xavier Savage to post first points at Suncorp Stadium.

Jordan Rapana is kicking goals and easily converts.

6PM:Get out your capes and wands, Magic Round is underway!

5.30PM: Jordan Rapana (CTW/FLB $636,400) is lining up for the first time since going down with injury in round five.

The Raiders stalwart is one of the more polarising players in the league with his style of play, but is one the Canberra fans adore.

Just 260 have opted to bring him into their SuperCoach teams despite a host of fullbacks going down in recent weeks, perhaps due to his relatively high breakeven of 88.

Who are you rolling with in your team from this first game?

It’s just Samuel Hughes (FRF $411,700) for me. He’s been there from the start and has been reliable as ever, so he once again gets the nod to start.

5PM: The most anticipated clash of Magic Round between Ricky Stuart and Jaeman Salmon, is not to be.

The man labelled a ‘weak gutted dog’ by the Raiders coach is a late withdrawal, with Poasa Faamausili (FRF, $207,700) coming onto the interchange in his place.

Josh Papali’i moves back to the bench in place of Emre Gulmer in a move that has shocked absolutely nobody.

EARLIER: Magic Round is back!

For SuperCoach players, the only magic they’ll be hoping for is for all their players to survive 80 minutes without an injury. That’s not too much to ask, is it?

The Raiders return to action after a week off with the bye to kick off Magic Round against the Bulldogs.

This means popular cheapies Ethan Strange ($457,100) and Morgan Smithies ($489,000) are back in action.

For the Bulldogs, Bronson Xerri ($473,400) had a quiet night against the Panthers but is touted to make a return to the points against the Raiders, a side who has conceded three scores of 70+ to left centres in the past month.

This also heightens the appeal of Viliame Kikau ($557,700), with the Raiders conceding two scores of 60+ to left edge forwards recently.

Joshua Curran ($556,300) was another popular Bulldog who had a low scoring night in round 10, but is expected to return stronger against the Raiders.

The second match of Friday sees the Sea Eagles take on the Broncos, with a lot of rotation for both sides who hold wounded rosters.

Reuben Garrick ($746,100) is the most owned player in this fixture at 38.5%, but was largely disappointing in round 10 with a return of just 36 points.

Tolutau Koula ($470,400) is one to keep an eye on having secured the no. 1 jersey after a long-term injury to Tom Trbojevic.

Haumole Olakau’atu ($712,600) also makes a timely return for Manly, still owned by 12.9% of players.

For the Broncos, Reece Walsh ($681,500) is the headline late omission, devastating those coming to Suncorp to see the electric talent, as well as those 28% of SuperCoaches who own the magic man.

Selwyn Cobbo ($583,000) is set to take the fullback jersey, so all eyes on him to see if he can deliver the points. He’s been averaging 60.2 over his last five games from the centres.

Popular cheapie Xavier Willison ($402,100) is one asset who could be set for some big minutes during the Origin period with the losses of Payne Haas and Patrick Carrigan, no doubt set to rise in ownership soon.

Ezra Mam ($639,400) is thriving in the absence of Adam Reynolds, averaging 80.3 points per game from his last three.
